For what is worth somehow vancouver is THE place for billionaire mainland Chinese like London is for same level Arab and Russians. We see lots of things here and the greed and status chasing with zero care for cost or money is a real phenomena. Not sure truly how much their greed and collecting huge pieces affect the market but it sure follows the line of reasonings vendors alluding to scarcity of these product touch on. Again just one point of reference.

For all our sake and more importantly our sons our daughters and theirs I hope this is all a blip in the history of oudh.

Kinda like Reason why North American Ginseng & Canadian Ginseng ( illegal to harvest in Canada, serious jail time ) is endangered because of the high demand In china , (North America Ginseng is prized because of its cold properties , Asian Ginseng hot properties ), and African Rhino horn with Elephants ivory going to China ,Royal Bengal tiger bones going to china , major reason why these animals are on an endangered list because of the Chinese market , and also illegal jade being mined world wide and going to china , I could probably go on regarding China's way of take everything while you can cause the train is leaving, hence we need more educated Chinese to bring up these issues regarding endangered animals and plants and woods going to the Chinese market, one thing that really shocked me is the black market butterfly being sent to china and one butterfly on there list is the mystical Monarch who travels from Mexico all the way up Canada , hence we definitely need more educated Chinese hippies not to plunder nature , cause at the end there won't be any left for there children and our children and grandchildren , ( In Bangladesh Aggarwood grows everywhere in a wild Manner, majority don't have any idea what that tree is , plus India is foundation for the future of oud , educating the Chinese market is the way to go but time will tell )

Respected Alkhadra, no words to appreciate your acumen. Three cheers :clapping::clapping::clapping:! Demand determines cost, nowadays. What about demand-generation:Roflmao:?

Wait a bit, brother. America has recently jumped into as well. New bill signed by Mr Trump. Now China won't be alone. Two's a COMPANY:Roflmao:! Now it won't be easy to allege Chinese for somewhat personal wish to price high. Generally the word 'Chinese' is a cover, I think so.

I’ve a thought... if the Chinese demand were to subside right now. This instant. What would happen to the price and availability of wood?

I have a BIG feeling that it would drop very fast, just like the crude oil price did after it peaked in 2008/9. Remember all th stories about Peak Oil? They’ve all gone now... now they are talking about Peak Demand as shale oil and other sources come onto the market.

There is wood out there... but the price has been inflated and the stories of the price inflation have been inflated too.

Great discussion and very thought provoking. Allow me to humbly add some thoughts. I’ve always felt the problem is bigger than pointing the finger at a country, a person or a group of countries and people. Because how can we be certain that after a time another won’t rise to take its place.

I believe it is the system, the money system and the way of capitalism. People under the money system must live and work with the purpose of pursuing and holding on to money. It is a cycle that when taken to extremes as in today’s world, people become very dark and dangerous in terms of greed, overlooking morality, abusing natural resources, exploiting our own humanity and the people around us.

Now if I was to change the word “money” to “good will”, how would the system play out.

I believe it is the system, the good will system and the way of humanity. People under the good will system must live and work with the purpose of pursuing and holding on to good will. It is a cycle that when taken to extremes as in today’s world, people become very enlightened and safe in terms of giving, holding on to morality, caring for natural resources, appreciating our own humanity and the people around us.

There is a lot of Investing going on. Art, Collectibles, Real Estate, Company Stocks, etc., etc.

    So why not Oud?
Sometimes the lines blur between Wild Oud and a good Plantation Oud. So how can the investor and potential buyer certify that the Oud is from the wild.

    Sounds line a risky investment.

Interesting feelings. But, dear VPhong, there is a big big problem, when Oud is in, even socialist and communist Chinese have changed into capitalist.:Roflmao:. The rest of the world is already either capitalist or capitalisTIC. No criticism at all, but it is obvious that it is we (vendors/ brokers/ second or third party Oud introduce-rs who make either Oud DEAR again or CHEAP again, rather again and again. By the way, I never consider Chinese the real cause of the scenario. The word 'Chinese' is used as an alibi.
It can prove to be excellent investment, but one has to be good at maneuvering that is given a beautiful name 'marketing'. Media orient a vast majority, so does oud based websites, fb pages and blogs . There is always a big crime behind a big business. Neo-oud era!
Every month I go to 'money changers':p, and 'the rest is silence'. Cheers!

Of course you are right dear Rai Munir. We are in a capitalist era. I do not discount this nor am I against earning money to support ourselves and our family. I am also in the system. I buy, I sell and I invest. Whilst in my mind I don’t believe the money system is the best system for our society - I accept it. I accept it as I accept the voice of the majority. I accept it as I accept that certain things cannot be changed (or certainly not at this time) and life goes on. Therefore we must continue to live and fulfill our responsibilities within the laws and parameters of society.

My intention for writing the previous post wasn’t solely to have a dig at the monetary system. The contrast of the dark side of money also helped to highlight the beauty of humanity and act as a reminder to the perils we face in modern times. I believe although we may not change the world today, it is important to keep good thoughts present in our minds and share in the warmth of humanity. If by reading my post a person felt an increased awareness, have a more positive mind frame, and something stirred in the heart then I would have accomplished my goal. Our interaction with each other is one of a series of connections that forms a chain of events. What we do and how we interact can influence the complexion of multiple links further down the chain for better or for worse, to give light or to bring darkness. I enjoy your writing dear Rai Munir and this forum for the beauty it brings. We are touched by this light and we in turn pass it on through our everyday interactions. Long may it continue.:praying:

Dear Jensz and dear Mandeel thank you so much for your kind words. It definitely lighted up my night! :)
