In short, whether in terms of pseudo-scientific or orthodox scientific conception, Agarwood is originated from Aquilaria crassna Pierre ex Lecomte and Ky Nam is a specialty that nature bestows on our country. How to distinguish between Agarwood and natural Ky Nam

The green oil tends to have sour taste while the white oil has more herbal flavors (scent of traditional Chinese medicine, herbs) and the black or purple oil has a pure vanilla sweetness.
Tip: Wet the Kynam piece with a little warm water, then wrap it tightly with a nylon sheet (banana leaves are better), then you will leave it in the sun for about 10 minutes to see its sweet aroma, which you cannot found in normal agarwood, when ky nam meets water, it becomes soft and very easy to cut unlike agarwood. When dry, Ky Nam is quite hard but not as hard as agarwood.
For cold water, try to use pure rain water to wet Ky Nam and feel its aroma immediately.

Fake Ky Nam ?
Currently there is no technology that can fake natural Kynam (Only applicable to those who have had experience with natural/ wild Kynam)
Currently only the technology of planting Ky Nam
Technically, almost all kynams currently on the market are “cultivated kynams.”
High quality premium cultivated Ky Nam for 5 years or more, try and smell it and enjoy it rather than just arguing wild or cultivated without knowing what it smells like or how degree it is burnt. The kynam itself has a light color, a little plastic but that is the signal that it have a lot of oil, a pale appearance does not mean the lower quality that many people misjudge.
Very few documents are shared clearly and accurately online about KyNam nowadays, mostly false and inaccurate or complete, they use the information mainly for trading or because they do not understand KyNam as well.

Value of Agarwood and Natural Ky Nam

What is the true value of Agarwood and Ky Nam ? That is the question that I have been trying to answer for many years but have not yet found a satisfactory answer. I think, to answer that question, we probably have to use both explanations: pseudoscience or pre-scientific (protoscience) and orthodox science. Pseudoscience is not antiscience, but in the history of some of today's sciences itself has gone through a period of pseudoscience and then pre-scientific. Examples of pseudoscience are Astrology, Psychic, Feng Shui, etc. Examples of pre-scientific are: Sociobiology, Futurology, Cryonics, etc.
From a pseudo-scientific (and pre-scientific) point of view, we see that, in addition to being used as a flavoring agent for high-class perfumes, Agarwood also has many important applications in traditional medicine, in aromatherapy. Standing on the official scientific concept, so far there have been a number of important works as follows:
- The United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) has just announced a new invention by four scientists at Taipei Medical University with the content: "Using extracts of Agarwood bark to treat cancer ". Patent registration number is 20110160152, publication date: June 30, 2011, the authors of the invention: Ching-Chiung Wang, Lih-Geeng Chen, Ting-Lin Chang, Chi-Ting Hsieh. In fact, since 2005, Cucurbitacins have been found in the Agarwood tree (Thymelaeaceae), but this invention specifically shows that Cucurbitacins can be isolated from the bark of the Aquilaria tree (Aquilaria agallocha Roxb.), indicating the method of using it. Extracts in the bark of the above-mentioned Aquilaria tree to kill cancer cells, to prevent and cure cancer. - According to www.vnexpress.net/Vietnam/Suc-khoe/2001/12/3B9B7607/ Scientists from Rutgers University (New Jersey, USA) used the resin of Commiphora myrha to test on MCF-7 breast cancer cell type, which is resistant to specific drugs. As a result, all cancer cells are destroyed.
- In November 2005, professors of the Institute of Natural Medicine, University of Toyama (Japan) found a new sesquiterpene of Agarwood from Vietnam and proved in the laboratory its stimulating effect on the reproductive process. BDNF (New sesquiterpene from Vietnamese agarwood and its induction effect on Brain-derived Neurotrophic Factor mRNA expression in vitro). The surveyed material was 4.52g Ky Nam (Kyara) purchased at Khanh Hoa Department of Science and Technology from December 2001. This work was published in Bioorganic & Medicinal Chemistry No. 14 (2006) pp. 3571-3574, February 7, 2006 available for download online from www.sciencedirect.com. - According to http://tuoitre.vn//Giao-duc/Khoa-hoc/424317/San-xuat-duoc-lieu-tu-l..., According to research by Master Dang Uy Nhan (University of Science) natural, Vietnam National University, Ho Chi Minh City) leaves of Aquilaria crasna tree have very high chemical composition and antioxidant activity, isolated seven pure compounds in which the main compound is mangiferin with the content of 17.16mg/g ( equivalent to 1.7% in dry leaves). Mangiferin is an active ingredient capable of directly destroying Herpes simplex virus, Sitomegalo virus, stimulating the body to produce interfevon, helping the body to increase the body's ability to fight diseases of viral origin. In addition, mangiferin has a hypoglycemic effect.
- According to the Journal of Natural Medicines, volume 62, No.1/2008, Hiroaki Takemoto and his colleagues have proven the sedative effect of steaming with Agarwood essential oil. In short, whether in terms of pseudo-scientific or orthodox scientific conception, Agarwood is originated from Aquilaria crassna Pierre ex Lecomte and Ky Nam is a specialty that nature bestows on our country. From the 16th century, when Agarwood was worth 16 times the price of gold (see Do Tat Loi, Vietnamese medicinal plants and herbs, page 436) until now, although the price fluctuates due to supply and demand changes, but in general still stand on a much higher price level than many other forest products. It is highly recommended to continue to develop it properly, especially to further study Agarwood in both basic theory and technology.

He asserts that Kyara can only be derived from trees of the Aquilaria species that grow in Vietnam. Anything not harvested in Vietnam, cannot be Kynam. That is the motto. Oller also claims that Kyara has a unique chemical characteristic that is not found in other types of jinko. There is a certain chemical called Dihydrokaronone that can only be found in the Vietnamese Aquilaria Crassna plant.
How to distinguish between Agarwood and natural Ky Nam

The green oil tends to have sour taste while the white oil has more herbal flavors (scent of traditional Chinese medicine, herbs) and the black or purple oil has a pure vanilla sweetness.
Tip: Wet the Kynam piece with a little warm water, then wrap it tightly with a nylon sheet (banana leaves are better), then you will leave it in the sun for about 10 minutes to see its sweet aroma, which you cannot found in normal agarwood, when ky nam meets water, it becomes soft and very easy to cut unlike agarwood. When dry, Ky Nam is quite hard but not as hard as agarwood.
For cold water, try to use pure rain water to wet Ky Nam and feel its aroma immediately.

Fake Ky Nam ?
Currently there is no technology that can fake natural Kynam (Only applicable to those who have had experience with natural/ wild Kynam)
Currently only the technology of planting Ky Nam
Technically, almost all kynams currently on the market are “cultivated kynams.”
High quality premium cultivated Ky Nam for 5 years or more, try and smell it and enjoy it rather than just arguing wild or cultivated without knowing what it smells like or how degree it is burnt. The kynam itself has a light color, a little plastic but that is the signal that it have a lot of oil, a pale appearance does not mean the lower quality that many people misjudge.
Very few documents are shared clearly and accurately online about KyNam nowadays, mostly false and inaccurate or complete, they use the information mainly for trading or because they do not understand KyNam as well.
