Hi Habz786,

What is the scent profile of these woods at room temperature? Are they sweet or slightly bitter? I am looking to buy some sweet, pleasingly aromatic agarwood chips just a personal collectible and not for burning.

Many thanks!

Hello @Agil The scent at room temp is deep woody and sweet.

Thanks brother. I sometimes find little tricky to get the actual smell of resin. When I put my nose too close I tend to get the wood smell (non resinated parts) mixed with the actual aroma of resin.

But whatever, your chips are oozing with resin. Like they were dipped in Tar.

Great quality chips and DSLR photograph.

I let my wife sniff the Filipino sinking, she said “it has a sweetness”, I said, “a floral or candy sweetness”, she said “no”, “just some sort of sweetness”.

To me, sweet oudy wood.

Since I know the smell of it when heated, the smell of it at room temperature is like a present all wrapped up and concealed, that when you open it (heat it), surprise!!!

The Sinking Filipino opens with wafts of sweetish perfume. Piercing, fresh, and very aromatic......good for fumigation.
Although not fruity, my imagination thinks of Dragon Fruit and Guyabano (Soursop), and although not floral, I think of nectar from flowers. Definitely woody with oudy.
If you keep the heat from getting very hot, it lasts long, and the profile becomes less fresh but more resiny/dark.
There’s a little Gyrinops vibe, but not anywhere near the Walla Patta or Papua New Guinea profiles. If this wood is truly of the Aquilaria Cumingiana species, then some of it’s profile makes sense if you tried IO Celebes.

If I had a vast olfactory library, then I could pinpoint more notes....but I struggle a bit:Cooler:

Thank you @Oudamberlove for duely recording your observations! That’s more than sufficient! Great job

Fresh and piercing - is that note similar to frankincense?
