I collected it slowly over the past year, mostly heartwood with a few nice pieces of root thrown in. Mostly older material but I won’t lie I got some young wood sold to me as much older then it was but that was only a small part of it. I chopped it by hand using an ax then a chisel making slices and tiny match stick pieces, cold soak for a week to soften the wood and now a week of distilling

Hey Jay

Those separators are a pain in the rear end, the pot looks like one of Gary's systems. You are better off getting a single path over flow separator which you can then feedback into the pot and have continuously running without the need to keep collecting the hydrosol in container then adding water/hydrosol back into the pot.

Single path over flow removes that little horizontal path that connects the over flow back into the collection tube. The risk with the current system is you can get oil flowing into the over flow hydrosol container.

Good luck with the distillation.

If you look in the back ground you may notice that this distillation is set up in my scientific glass shop, that’s a Litton glass lathe in the background, glassware is homemade and yes Geary made the condenser ( stainless) and I made the glass ,pot set for hydro not geary’s steam set up . hydrosol is reintroduced manually and that is a pain in the arse!
I notice a small amount of oil on the hydrosol
but I keep adding it Back to the pot .
I added a pressure valve to reduce temp needed to bring over the distillate.

You are a winner right there having glass blowing skills, one of the biggest challenges is to get glassware manufactured in the right configuration and reasonable price. I did note the sections in the glass which you had welded onto, such as the valve for the over flow and the glass to steel joint.

I have done a rough mark up of the points i was referring to. Please note the proposed feed pipe into the pot would work where the pressure is balanced and not increased pressure. Where the pressure is increased you would need some type of pressure value to ensure you dont have water shooting out of that pipe, and return the hydrsol only when the pressure is released. But you will get an idea of what i mean.

Thanks!
It’s help like this that makes me love what I do!!
I also do sandblasting if you guys at ASO ever want custom art placed on your glassware, over 20 years of glass blower experience here! And Many connections in that world.

Just spotted this thread. Great resource this site. What a wonderful work in progress.

Although the posts between EJayB and ASO was conducted in the English language...I have to admit to not having the foggiest of a clue as to what it all meant...
And yet strangely compelling to read....Oh Oudh...where art thou leading me?....
