I've tried Borneo Zazen which I believe is a reformulation of Zen (not sure what the exact difference is) and I love it. Like Bryan said it is very jasmine/floral centric, but I prefer (I'm about to commit blasphemy here) oud based attars rather than pure oud oils, and I think the oud and jasmine blend is brilliant. Ensar did something similar with Monsieur Oud, which is a oud and frangipani blend. Both of them I would say are his best creations.

I ordered Zen straight away, as I had ordered a sample of Borneo Zazen and waited for a sale to order a full size, but by then it was out of stock and I've been on the hunt for it ever since.

I am trying to make Borneo Zen right now. I don't have any sandalwood though.

I have some Oud Extraordinaire, Organic Jasmine, and Tonkin Deer Musk. I will probably mix them/heat them in a small glass vial and see what results I get.

Boreno Zen is a remarkable attar blended beautifully with Musk, Oud, Rose, Sandalwood and definitely Jasmine. While the Jasmine note is pronounced and is constant throughout, the musk really shines through. I find this to be masterfully blended and was very thankful to see it for sale again. I wish I could buy more than 1 bottle.

Curious about the difference between Borneo Zen and Borneo Zazen, if anyone can share.

I have a sample of Zazen and have ordered Zen. I'll provide a comparison once I get it.

Borneo Zen (the old one) and Borneo Zen Royale: I tried both, and both have pronounced jasmine. Borneo Zen (the old one) I liked in the beginning, but it proved itself to be replete with jasmine. Though over all scent profile was much refined than that of Borneo Zen Royale.

Respected Yahaya did the best by macerating Musk in NZ.

So I received Zen just now and compared it with Zazen. The difference is subtle, out of the bottle I would say Zazen is lighter/airier than Zen (Zen has maybe a more musky kind of tone), after a few minutes on the skin they're both indiscernible from each other.

The musk is certainly hidden behind the jasmine and Sandalwood so you will not get the powerful animalic notes of what you mentioned above. But the power of the quality musk on the scent is very evident and strong. It is certainly more of a pretty attar than a power attar. But complex and layered. Seriously, my favorite Ensar attar for these reasons.

when i see everyone talking about musk here i assume they are referring to deer.
For me the civet musk in this attar is much louder and becomes more apparent a couple of hours into the wear after the jasmine accord starts to fade.
A 3d floral/jasmine smelling attar, slightly anamalic with a furry texture. Most people should be able to tell straight away whether or not they will like it on initial try.
