    Assalamu Alaykm and hello everyone!

We've just entered Ramadan and in case you didn't know, that means it's been an entire year since Al Hashimi launched publicly! Ramadan Mubarak to all our brothers and sisters out there. Today's a special day for us...

We follow a very strict mentality at Al Hashimi, we don’t ask ourselves ‘how?’, we only ask ‘when?’. All is but a matter of time in the grand scheme of things, and those who know me well enough can tell you that I’m not one to blow my own trumpet, yet at the same time, I take pride in being a part of this team. A team that innovates and thinks outside of the box. A team that gets excited at the idea of new prospects, even if they seem bleak at best.

Take this; an engineer, a pharmacist, and a tech expert join in cahoots in their wild adventure into Oud. Some of our skills are inherent, and some of them are earned over countless hours of hard work and dedication. What you’re about to read is a product of our inherent skills, coupled with an insatiable hunger to constantly push our limits in experiencing new dimensions of fragrance, and so it happened.

    The X Collection was born.

    XC (1).jpg
X standing for Extract, and while we aren’t the first to devise methods of extraction and offer them on the market, we are the first to develop artisanal extracts. You might ask yourself how? Well, the answer is simple. Until now, all Oud resin seen on the market was produced using post-distillation material. What does that mean for the resin? Well, it means the resin produced has a very low content of essential oil (sometimes close to none), as the bulk majority of it was taken out of the wood in the distillation product.

Yeah, we don’t do that. We’re not here recycling material to make a quick buck. Our extracts don’t leave anything out. When we extract Filipino Oud resin, it smells like Filipino Oud. When we extract Hindi Oud resin, it smells like Hindi Oud. A literal conversion of Oud into Oud, making our X Collection one of a kind on the market.

It has completely changed our understanding of Oud. When heating Oud wood, we now know which part of the scent is due to the pattern of resin formation in the wood, which part is the resin, which part is the wood itself, and which part is the Oud.

And if you thought our new developed technology was limited to Oud, wait until you try our
Santal X, which smells more Sandal than Sandalwood itself.

Ladies and gentlemen, I welcome you to the X Collection. Where Sandal is more than Sandal, and Oud is Oud.

For the first X Collection release!

    Adnan X
    https://alhashimi.com/shop/adnan-x/

    AX.jpg

    JUNGLE: MINDANAO – THE PHILIPPINES
    EXTRACTED: 2019

We launched Adan as the first Tawi Tawi to hit the market. We launched Adnan as the first affordable Mindanao to hit the market. Then came Adnan II, The Second Act; and now? Say hello to my little friend, Adnan X.

As I mentioned in the Adnan II write up, there won’t be a third act. Then what is Adnan X? Adnan X is not a sequel. If anything, it’s the prequel to it all. Created from the same distillation material as both Adnan and Adnan II. The primordial ooze that made it all possible.

Smell it raw. While it may not be a powerful aroma, one things for sure, it’s dense. As in, you can smell the citrus that manifests as frankincense post distillation. You can smell the gentle sweetness that came out as honey. The blue-green aquamarine hue that served as the building blocks for something we all came to love and adore.

Throw it on a mica plate and heat it up. It’s the wild soul of the Philippines in all her might. A berry twang minus the berries, a compact aroma that just exudes an overwhelming rawness, so tenacious that it fumigates so strongly, you can actually smell it on your palms after a solid session of wafting the fragrant smoke towards your person.

You’ve burnt wood…You’ve swiped oils… It’s time to experience the third dimension.

For the second X Collection release! This one is special.. :Inlove:

    Santal X

    JUNGLE: CEYLON
    EXTRACTED: 2019

If you haven’t read about our X Collection yet, click here.

Heating Sandalwood is great, but it doesn’t perform as well as Oud does. The dry wood often scorches if you try dialing up the heat, and so we often find ourselves turning towards Sandalwood oil to find a befitting experience. Yet, Sandalwood oil leaves a lot to desire, never fully capturing the raw aroma found in raw Sandalwood. I think you can already tell where this is going…

Santal X is something unheard of in the world of perfumery. Created by the dignified hands of our very own Ahmad Abassi, it’s an achievement that will go down in history as a turning point in experiencing new frontiers of fragrance. No distillation tricks or techniques here involved. All Ahmad did was extracted the living daylights out of some brown Ceylon Sandal heartwood.

The aroma…You ever smell Ceylon Sandal raw? That spicy, cinnamon sweet, sugared cream. Compact it. Condense it. Compress it!

As for the applications, the possibilities are limitless. You might be wondering:

    • Can I swipe this and use it as a perfume?
    • Can I use this in blends?
    • Can I tincture this in alcohol?
    • Can I add a few drops to an incense blend I’m working on?
Yes, you definitely can do all those things with our Frankenstein-esque creation. So don’t wait up, be the first to experience the third dimension of Sandalwood.

The only downside to Santal X is that Ahmad didn’t scream “It’s ALIIIVEEE!!!” when it was born…

    Ramadan Mubarak everyone!

Wa Alaykm Assalam and Ramadan Mubarak @jalil !

As Ahmad mentioned above, it's a 100% pure Filipino Oud extract. Put a piece on your mica plate and enjoy on low heat.

I wonder how this compares to sandalwood co2 extracts? I have several of these and they are wonderful and capture unique aspects of the sandalwood scent!

I've only ever tried one Santal CO2 extract, and I'm not really drawing too many comparisons between them from memory, you can read the Santal X reviews on our website to get a better feel for it, give it a shot!;)

The co2 oils are quite different from one another. The “total” extracts have a golden yellow color, not transparent, milky, very very viscous and slow to pour like cool honey. The “select” is much more pourable, translucent, a darker brown, and like sandalwood oil with the volume turned up. The “total” has strong maple syrup notes, the “select” has a more conventional sandalwood aroma.

I've only tried a total CO2 extract, does the "select" signify that some components have been separated?
As for the smell, if you smell raw Ceylon Sandalwood, then take a sniff of Santal X, all the notes are there, only this can better be considered an intense version. None of those green notes in distilled Ceylon Sandalwood, dark, sweet, creamy, nutty.

    As for the color...:Roflmao:

I’ve never smelled Ceylon sandalwood as far as I know! Select oils are processed at different temperatures and pressures and extract a narrower range of constituents, fewer waxes and fixed oils; they are usually quite a bit more expensive. To some degree they are closer to essential oils than total extracts, to the best of my knowledge.

We've also done something similar. Did a little separation to narrow it down, cut out 16% of the batch. Not exactly selective extraction or distillation, but you get the idea! ;)

Thanks for the kind comment! You know how when you see an oils color you can guess what type of smell it has based on the origin? This one isn't like that at all, it's scent and color don't correlate with what the usual guesses on oil color to scent. But yeah, had we named it Santal Intense it would have been just as fitting.
