Got some fantastic samples of Chinese oud from imperial oud. I need more time to experience these but I am just blown away on first impression. These sinensis oils... they are just amazing. They seem to really fall in line with the Japanese incense aesthetic - really clean, bittersweet, thick and dense aroma. Really couldn’t ask for nicer ouds.

I’m a big fan of IO Fragrant Harbor Imperiale, Hainan Imperiale and an unreleased Hainan. They grabbed my attention with first whiff.:)

I wonder about high priced sinensis like Royal Kinam... in many ways the IO sinensis oils really scratch that same itch. I have a number of sinensis samples and I’m not convinced the price is really related to the quality in most cases. IO’s sinensis oils hold their own, to my nose, against any sinensis I have smelled. Maybe my nose needs more training to pick out the notes that set the more expensive ones apart.

True, I figure when the other Sinensis hydrodistills oils age, they’ll calm down to the level of the Sinensis extracts.....that’s if oxidation didn’t get the best of them first.
But as I compared an old sample of Hainan Imperiale to Sinensis 1&2 (yesterday), the greeness of HI stuck out, and the extracts don’t possess the “green”.

I wasn’t even thinking of extracts vs. distillates. I have only smelled one sinensis extract I think. I just mean oils distilled from the species Aquilaria sinensis.

It was plain english, and I still misinterpreted:(
It’s tricky when the Imperial Oud team named their extracts “Sinensis”. Some even argue if extracts can be considered oud:confused:
    Is it marketing genius??
    Just kidding!!.......a name is just a name:Cooler:

So have you all smelled the hainan oil “China exclusive” from oriscent / ensar? This is clearly not Aquilaria sinensis - is it malaccensis? Anyone have any thoughts on this oil and how typical / unusual it is for a hainan agarwood oil?
