Oud Beginner
Salaam / Hello

Would be grateful for suggestions on best method to decant oud into a new bottle without losing any oil or minimising any lost oil. I have a 2.5g bottle of EO Hainan 05 which appears to be leaking somehow from the dipstick area (it was stored horizontally for a while but so we're other oils and they are fine).

Any suggestions on where I can buy good quality oud bottles or vials and dipstick from?

Thanks

Hello, my recommendation would be to use a pipette, or a glass eyedropper, both available on amazon, one suitable pipette can be found at this link:

www.amazon.com/moveland-Pipettes-Plastic-Transfer-Essential/dp/B07NMBJPCV/ref=sr_1_9?keywords=pipette&qid=1571519628&sr=8-9

Using these and then "washing" it and the old bottle with some ethanol afterward will allow you to get all of the oil transferred. Save the ethanol wash in a little glass like a shot glass and allow the ethanol to evaporate leaving behind what will probably amount to several good swipes of oil. Use this to swipe or scent some clothes with such as a scarf or jacket.

As for a good bottle to put the oil in, you could probably get one of the vendors here to send you one if you cover the shipping.

Thanks for the suggestions, appreciate it guys. Never used Ethanol before. I'll clear the neck of the bottle first, if the issue persists then will give it a try and post back in due course.

- You can try on eBay.
- A related point (in case people don't know about): Never use those fancy crystal bottles as the neck area is painted. This paint wears off as soon as it gets in contact with oud or any other oil. The odour profile will change over time as it reacts with that nasty thing. Sometimes the whole thing comes off the crystal outer shell! The only exceptions are the ones with non-plated pure stainless steel or pure aluminium ones - both of which are chemically inert to oils.

Those crystal bottles are like costume jewelry. All glitz, no quality. Sadly I receive Borneo 3000 and royal kinam in those. I lost significant portions of both to those accursed bottles as I didn’t realize how bad they were.

Still quite new to Oud, I did like the look of the 'fancy crystal' bottles however will stay away from them after reading the above. My EO Hainan 05 is in a classic glass bottle, the dipstick applicator is glass i believe but the bit where you hold the dipstick from feels plastic.

From the ouds I have, quality of the bottles seems ok in general but something that could be improved. I would have envisaged vendors to be using solid quality bottles (not sure if there are any on the market but something should be manufactured), particularly for the price tag on some of the oils. The golden cap on the bottles is for me a key example of something that could be better quality. I'm thinking to switch to vials for future purchases.
