I’ve found that most cheaper vetiver oils are solvent extracted...apparently more stable for perfumery mixes. On the other hand, Ruh Khus is hydro distilled...distinct green colour, whereas the other ones are a brownish colour...
If you are looking for Ruh Khus, IO has some available currently...

Copper vessels used for cooking or distillation are lined with tin, not with lead, if they were lined with lead, the liquids coming in contact with it, would be toxic. The tin is not toxic and is suitable get in contact with food. Not sure where the green color or ruh khus is coming from. However the salts of copper are green and also toxic, could it be related to the copper vessels they are distilled with?

I have Ruh Khus but have never used it..I wanted to know can this be applied neat...since it is a pure essential oil I am under the impression that it has to be diluted with a carrier oil.

Ruh Khus (Chrysopogon zizanioides) is one of the few essential oils that can be applied pure directly on the skin. Few others are Sandalwood and Lavender essential oil. So yes, you can apply directly on the skin pure, though before doing it, you should test if you are sensitive you any of the constituents in it. So just apply a small drop on the internal part of your arm, and keep if for at least 30 to 60 minutes, if you don't notice any redness or swelling you are good to go.

Peppermint Oil is another one of the very few that can be used directly. But as Kabir Attars and Feder Unix posted, careful with others. Essential oils generally are not meant to be used without carrier oil, undiluted. One of the more extreme examples is Teatree Oil (Melaleuca alternifolia). Although a great oil for a number of medicinal uses!. Careful with this one. Also not to be used above it's expiration date. The degradation products are quite agressive.

Genuine Ruh Khus improves with age, the more is old the better is the scent.

But still I couldn't find out the ideal ratio of Khus oil to have a balanced blend/ itr. I acquired Khus oil from Ayub Co. India. Beautiful scent in summers, but unbearable in blends. I don't know where lies the fault, either in Khus, or the other oils I use, or the ratio. Its behaviour is not like that of Rose whose scent never disturbs at all in case the ratio is even not perfect. But Khus has become a nightmare to me now.

Ruh Khus (AKA Vetiver essential oil) is well known in the perfumery industry to be very persistent and extremely powerful note with the power to cover any other scent in a blend. So if you are trying to blend it, you need to be extremely careful with the quantity. I would suggest you to create some dilution in order to make your work easier. You should make a set of diluition at 5%, 10% and 30% and try them starting from the lower concentration, then test your results as you go. Vetiver essential oil is soluble in perfumer alcohol or 96% grain alcohol. If you cannot use alcohol due to religious constraints, you can dilute it in Jojoba oil, or Fractionated Coconut Oil, or eventually whole Coconut oil (either refined or raw)

Yes, I have a sample of it. It is a very nice Ruh Khus. Emerald green in color and has the typical complexity of Ruh Khus, which has a different characteristic than other brownish vetiver essential oils, which sometimes go into the direction of tobacco, or chocolate, or are often a bit overly sweet. It misses the balsamic and citric note which can be found in Ruh Khus from M.L. Ramnarain.

Can send you my sample if you like. It should contain a few drops.

Thank you dear @O-l-e for sharing your experience, I’m really grateful, and thank you for the kind offering as well, I appreciate it. However, I must refuse, because I have purchased a full bottle yesterday. :) And I was asking about this to get an idea what to expect. :) I actually visited that shop because of the link you have posted in the thread about Jasmine eo vs absolute. And then I saw Ruh Khus in decent pricing with a free delivery, and the temptation took control of me. :)

    Hi all,
Can anyone please tell me is ruh khus or vetiver essential oil an absolute? I have been searching several portals and max of them describe ruh khus as vetiver absolute.
Secondly, can you help me please point some good vetiver eo suitable for blending attars?

Ruh Khus is supposed to be hydro-distilled, absolutely not an absolute!
