[Ouddict.com] Burn of the Day [Ouddict.com] Burn of the Day Here’s that Tigray in an old pharmacy jar. Click on the thumbnails for a high res version (I have to remember to only insert photos as thumbnails... on mobile devices big online photos can bog down). Anyway, this is mainly small granules 80% smaller than popcorn kernels but larger than lentils. A few larger nuggets scattered throughout. Many yellowish pieces but a good number with a distinct reddish tone.

Does this look like decent grade Tigray, or is this just bottom of the barrel trash? Should I be looking for some with a higher % of large nuggets?

A study in Nah Trang today
Honestly think this is my favorite origin of wood
Nah Trang (3 types) and the cheapest is my favorite at 12$ a gram I wish I could get more but it was from a specific one time find .
The Sinking is my next favorite from OudwoodVietnam as it is full of resin and lasts a long time and at ($20/g) is a great deal
Lucky strike is a totally different profile then these other 2, it’s nice with lots of resin but that resin doesn’t really bubble out like other wood.
It’s nice to have this as a reference and it’s definitely unique, just # 3 on my list of favorites from Nah Trang

Heated some Cambodi I purchased from Sharif La Roche 5 years ago.
At medium heat it goes on forever and I attribute it to the resin climbing into the unresinated portions of the wood, escaping the heat source and preventing overcooking the resin.....thus giving good scents (kinda like an incense stick, but with the sticks you do get smoke). Since day one, the profile of this wood makes me thinks that it was the benchmark for many ME created Cambodi oils (synthetic or synthetic blended with natural), because I have smelled similarities of this profile with those type of oils.

Next up some ASO Hudhayl chips, not sweet type hindi, very decent. THEN....I combined the two woods onto the mica, to get a Hindi Cambodi blend, and it sure smelled real lovely:Inlove:

decent chip of Ensar's Ceram Sinking. I sliced a chip and half, very hard wood. Burns nice, bubbles quickly and stays so and lowish heat.
Before this I had sliced up a bit of IO's wild Phillipines chips and after lowering the heat from the max that I start with I was struck with that gorgeously smooth filipino note, oh hm

I've been enjoying burning oud a lot recently, perhaps moreso than oils. I've ordered a cheap wood chisel and a hopefully better saw, my 2 suck. This one is quite cheap too, I should've just bought a decent one in the first place!
I'm enjoying slicing up wood into smaller chips so hopefully the chisel helps with that - I'm gathering all the dust into a big pile, it must have 15 different woods in there.
It's why I'm selling a bit of wood - I have tons, so I've removed a gram or so from a few bigger bags that I have and am selling those. I still have tons of 10g bags, I may split them a bit over time too

Just got my lightning today...looking forward to tonight. Interesting, all the Nha Trang I’ve tried (only from Tony B.) hasn’t been super resinous at least in a bubbling sense. I still feel like I’m trying to find the right method/temp.

Mysore sandalwood before sleep.
sandalwood is pretty hard to enjoy because of its temperature sensitivity.
it smells beautiful on optimal temperature but the smell is weak compared to oud, resin.
and strong smell sandalwood costs as much as oud(not sinking). 🙁
I might better burn sandalwood incense than raw sandalwood.

yea I find sandalwood difficult to burn. I tried it once on charcoal and it was as if I'd just lit a tree on fire...

Haven't long eaten my breakfast and put on a small piece of the Imperial Oud soil Walla. Damn...as soon as I turned the heat down I was hit with a the scent of iris! Lovely chips, I love the colour

Here's a picture of my burning setup. I'm not sure why but I've kept all my burned wood but never done anything with it

[Ouddict.com] Burn of the Day

I'll be weird and name some woods 😛
on the table, centre left:
- 2x IO Phillipines pieces
- above those, ASO's walla
- to its right, EO's Ceram Sinking
- to its right, unburned, EO's Bois de Papya

on my wooden chopping board is the big pile of 'shavings' of my own doing, and some pieces of IO's soil sri lankan

Sproaty- I also struggle with sandalwood combustion. There are kind of two approaches, neither perfect. One is to just burn the stuff and allow the smokey wood and sandalwood scent to permeate. This works kind of well with wood powder - just burn it like makko. But it’s hard on the sinuses or whatever.

gentle heating is amazing but requires a lot of maintenance to keep heating even across the chips or whatever form it’s in, and the pleasant scent fades fast. Better for close-in appreciation.

I have NEVER succeeded in permeating my home with sandalwood scent in the way I have with frankincense and oud. Sandalwood just does not project at all maybe?

This is why I've hyped up jks sticks. They are the closest I've come to finding a way to light up the room with sandalwood.

I'm changing up what I'm burning frequently today as I want to experience a wide range
Now - Habz' Sinking Sri Lankan. possibly the best thing that I've smelled - absolutely out of this world. One of the few things to provoke an actual "wow" reaction from my face.

Not sure if these are the same batch as he has for sale now I 10000% recommend these

Did you get a mind buzz? 😀 the Sri Lankan is one of the best woods i have smelt to date. That green oceanic earthy profile is mind blowing!

Tigray frankincense. Smells JUST like Tyson’s Tigray oil.

Imperial oud, Baieido, Daihatsu share the same opening.
KyaraZen's sandalwood is head-scratching weird sandalwood.
Agarwood Assam vintage Mysore is the Kyara level sublime sandalwood.

Best Smell: Agarwood Assam Vintage
