Brunei Kyere aka Kyara sticks from Fushigi.oud

Lovely stick, I wasn't doing Monkoh in the traditional sense but still kinda the same, instead sitting on my bed and wafting the smoke in my face quite often then taking a couple minute break and letting the aroma do its thing and closing my eyes and stuff like this, I had it on next to me while lying down, and I was listening to it as intently as I could (which was hard because there is labourers outside making a new place, they keep saying its a strip club lmfao, I would be 100% shocked if it was lol) while lying down and letting the smoke do its thing, and sometimes just wafting the smoke in the air into my direction every so often, so I got some silent notes that KZ talks about when listening to incense and I think that blog was mainly about listening to sticks, although I could be wrong) and the silent notes are weird because they build up a kind of song or momentum for a stick, and once you get the scent back again it is quite pleasing.

Anyway, I will just write the notes I heard from memory, as it was a good 50 - 60 mins ago.

Lovely aroma of resin rich, high quality Brunei Kinam, I have smelled raw Brunei Sinking, but this one is definitely what people refer to as, Brunei "Kinam", definitely has that profile from the get go, similar to that of their oil. With a slight elegant wood note, and with a lovely, distinct creamy note, with also a very thick milky note, some animalic-like notes to me anyway, notes of milky, creamy chocolate. Also notes of purple fruits, undertones of pink and purple florals, sweet and some very minor sourness, as the stick burns more and more, you get these purple fruits with all the other notes going into the background, except for the creaminess and some resin notes would stick around, no real woodiness but definitely a minor note that is always hovering while the stick burns. As it gets to the end there was a massive SPLASH of purple fruits for a second and it was very intense and delightful, then it gentle and gracefully started producing very lovely, powdery, pink and purple florals... gently fading away, at peace...

Lovely stick by Fushigi.oud!!!!

Auspicious Blend (Kangiiten) thanks to GLTASN on the KZ brass stencil burner at the moment*. at some point I have to look up the details on this… Don't smell any luxury smells here - dry combusting plant fiber aroma, a bit of a burnt seed / burnt fixed oil scent as well, likely from star anise seed. This may be more of a metaphysical than a fragrance oriented blend. *I had to put it out. The smell of the unburned powder is straight up star anise / 5 spice scent (but there could be some clove too), so this could be used as zukoh

I was told long ago that Buddhist ritual blends of this kind are sometimes based on aloeswood, sandalwood, borneol, clove, turmeric (5 core ingredients of symbolic/ spiritual significance) and then augmented if wanted with patchouli, benzoin, spikenard, sanna, musk, costus, etc..

The one thing is I'm not 100% sure on what the core five ingredients are... i am pretty sure about aloeswood, clove, borneol, turmeric, but less sure as to whether that fifth ingredient is Sandalwood or something else. This smells like a similarly austere blend but the wood I can't figure out. Doesn't smell like pine or cedar or Sandalwood or aloeswood or any of those.

Now I am burning a trail of Yamada Matsu's finest powdered sandalwood i got back in 2001 or thereabouts. The exposure in the pic is funny - the powder is not quite so dark.

What's nice about this burner is when you put the lid on the burn rate and temperature goes way way down so it allows you to get two very distinct burn temperatures from a single trail. In the case of the Sandalwood it benefits from the lower temperature for sure.

I don't like using those felt pads so in this one I put a layer of rice chaff ash on the bottom and tamp it down and then drop the stencil on that. I'm a little lazy and just mix in the ash after each burn for multiple burns, without any issues.

That's not a bad idea with the rice ash. I have a huge sheet of the carbon felt so plenty to use up. I rarely put the top back on though simply for airflow reasons but I may experiment with it a little more. I've definitely been interested in that auspicious blend but think I'll pass on it now. Not a bad multi ingredient blend however if you burn for metaphysical purposes.

Finally opened my package from Dr Incense after being away from home for a year.

Lit a stick of their Blue Lotus, quite impressed. A very pleasant, easy, yet still beautiful burn. Obviously not mind blowing but a nice change of pace from raw Agarwood.

I’m looking to order a box of their Holy Lotus sticks next drop, does anyone here have experience with them?

Baieido Kaden Kobunboku long stick burning at the moment in the livingroom. High enough quality to be worth paying attention to but cheap enough to burn and forget about and enjoy from a distance.

Today i took some of the low priced nineregions hainan oil and smeared a drop over a few inches' worth of a Kaden Kobunboku stick. This adds a nice kinamic / oudy layer to the burn.

I'm surprised and impressed that this low price extract burns with as good a scent as it does. It's not amazing but it's clearly oud and doesn't seem to be cut with anything. Very often I have found inexpensive oils smell terrible when burned on a stick because of whatever they are stretched with... fixed oils, etc..

Sandalwood in particular can work very well that way I have found. Patchouli as well.

Yamadamatsu Premium Range - Shikun. First time trying this stick and I got a 100 stick box.

Definitely reminds me of a more refined, higher class, Baieido Tokusen Kobunboku, to me, atleast anyway.

It is a very nice, aloeswood based stick, but it definitely has sandalwood in it, amongst some herbs and spices, even though all the ingredients that are in the description of every online store I have found its, aloeswood, I would agree with that on Kumoi but not Shikun. Shikun definitely has some sandalwood and herbs and spices to give it certain notes (like floral).

The stick is lovely, an amazing stick, goes up there as one of my favourites I think now. Notes are very resinous and woody (aloeswood), with some soft florals and a hint of sweet, creamy chocolate. It has this mellow spiciness to it, that is half sweet, half spicy. Lovely notes of sweet honey florals, some sandalwood notes like milkiness, and some creaminess with the traditional Mysore wood scent slightly in the undertones, with a great floral scent all the way through, usually in the undertones, but they can sometimes come out in a big grand way, with chocolate notes already playing and even some woody , somewhat greenery kind of tones.

Really nice stick. Sweet/Spicy, great quality aloeswood, resinous as hell all the way through, and high class floral notes mixed with all the others, a great blend!!!
