Hi all,

Do Bakhoors have expiry/use by date - does the quality diminish say after a couple of years?

and secondly (please don't laugh:Giggle:) I am thinking of purchasing the following, is this a bargain?

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/500g-Bakhoor-Oudh-Muattar-Mumtaz-Swiss-Arabian-Incense-Oudh-in-New-Factory-Seal/132031460075?ssPageName=STRK:MEBIDX:IT&_trksid=p2055119.m1438.l2649

Salam bro,

No pb if it's air sealed I think ...

As for Swiss arabian, don't expect to have natural compounds inside, if it doesnt matter for you then why not

The answer to your question lies in what you want...?

Do you want natural Agarwood and oil Bakhoor - or do you want synthetic "Agarwood" and aromachemical oerfumery?

If you want Commercial Grade Bakhoor - that will be a good deal for you. If you want the Bakhoor that is all natural - that won't be what you're looking for.

Hope that helps!

What if I sprinkle natural Oud Oils on the Bakhoor, will that enhance the experience.

I have about 5ml of reasonable oud/perfume oils, would this work?

I appreciate nothing can come close to nature but this would be for daily use after cooking and heating meals, so i don't really see the point in forking out.

Yes especialy in that case.

Actualy there are already aromatic oils over most of theses kind of bakhoor so, sure it will enhance.

If you have any wood chip, just put a dab of oil on the top and heat the chip on low heat you will see how much it enhance.

I do it time to time and I'm very happy with the result

In that case - I'd recommend this instead. Much more effective at cleaning up cooking smell. Much more cost effective and works great.

Brother... while this is a Artisanal Oud and Natural Perfumery forum, we are a pretty open group as the kind advice and answers by @F4R1d0uX and @RisingPhoenix demonstrate.

I personally detest an attitude that is patronising, mocking or dismissive just because someone does not have experience or knowledge of scents, or perhaps prefers synthetics. People are different and have different tastes, so there is no need to conform to a stereotype here. Personally, synthetics are anathema to me, but there is no need to worry about anyone laughing at you on this forum as we are all here to learn from each other and exchange knowledge ;)

Yes exactly @Ouddict I would hate to make feel someone ashamed.

Maybe some people can afford natural and high grade for their everyday life and some people just can't.

We just do our best to see with our dear ouddicts wich solution can fit them the best

Absolutely, no one should feel bad about using what they wish . If this incense is what you love then go for it . The whole world of incense is their for all of us to experience as we choose.

Some of the nicest bakhoor I ever bought was from Simon Rishel, Abu al-misky as he is also known...he had a web presence at aluwwah.net. That page is down for some time now.
Does anyone know what he is doing nowadays, what became of him?

Concerning how age will affect the Bakhoor, there should be some changes when it ages. It might even get better with age, but that would depend on the ingredients, and your personal preference.

As for the value, if you could sample it, and you like the scent, then yes, 500g for £125 seems like a good value. However, if you don’t like the scent, your stuck with a half kilo.

Would you consider making your own Bakhoor?
There might be recipes available on the web.

I still have some of his bakhoor from few years ago, I have messaged him on facebook and sent emails but no reply.

Thanks for your reply Faheem. It was the same here, I also tried to contact him but to no avail. And yes, I also have some left: a bit of Majlis 1, Black Pine Dragon and his wonderful "Black and Red" bakhoor, the latter being a wonderful bakhoor with scent of sweet cherries and floral musk. Simon sold me a very interesting, spicy Timor sandalwood oil, and I have two of his mukhallats "Whisper" and "Elements", too. His Karnataka sandalwood oil was also good stuff. It´s truly sad that he is not in business anymore.

Yes iv been wondering if he is ok too. I managed to get a codistillation of hirta and malacensis from him, a really great oil, he's a very safe choice for blind buying
