Rostrata Sultan has been a while in the making due to the rare Rostrata wood used in its distillation. Raja Hijau was a very well-respected oil when it was released, along with version 2 and gave Ouddicts a chance to experience the rare aroma of this prized agarwood.
The third HabzOud oil from this line-up is not only the best, but it used more resin-packed wood than the previous oils. This oil is a perfume in itself — what is meant by this is the smoothness and complexity of the oil is very unique and anyone who experiences it is in for a treat!
The aquatic florals which dance around this oil are so good you could eat them — violet, lily and blue lotus come to mind — all intertwined with an exotic jammy greenness laid on an incensey fizzy base. This oil has been sat for 6 months settling, with only a few members here who may have smelt it. Now it is time for it to be available to fulfil those who want to experience an incense-grade Malaysian Rostrata oil.
The colour of the oil is golden with a green tint. There has been zero soak and a slow, steady copper distillation for 3 weeks, giving a smooth, silky viscosity. As I am sat here inhaling the aroma off the dipstick, the sheer complexity of this oil is mind-blowing. I am hit with a bitter, fizzy, tropical incense, oceanic aquatics and white and purple florals on a bed of smooth raw woody jungle. The oil is so well-rounded, potent yet smooth and emanates like you have a chip sizzling away off the dipstick in your hand.
Once applied on the skin, the oil blossoms with a golden Cambodian-like jamminess on a bouquet of florals with sliced honeydew and a fresh cucumber and kiwi mojito. There is a fizzy equatic fresh oceanic vibe with ambergris on a bed of piney greens and crushed spices. The middle leaning towards lush green jungles with wild flowers and earth along side an array of dried herbs and spices. The oil is neither bitter nor sweet but has a fine balance of bright fizz, sweetness, bitterness and darkness all encapsulated within one experience. The base leans towards powdery woods, raw oudy resin and an old antique furniture vibe with a gentle touch of crisp clean smoke on a bed of fresh pottery.
Swiping this oil makes me feel happy and really invokes so many thoughts and memories. I am taken back by its depth and complexity. This is not your average Malaysian oil and really makes bold statements. A top-tier artisanal oil which is ready to stand against any Malay oil in your collection.
