Day 5
Low&Slow
[Ouddict.com] SILA (Soul of INDIA) Distillation

Are you increasing the heat as the days go on? Or manipulating the pressure inside the pot with the same temperature? Just wondering why the subsequent pulls appear darker in color and have more of a base note like aroma: close to the skin and long lasting. Compared to the earlier pulls.

I can't speak from experience distilling oud but the physics of it is that during the first fraction you get the highest proportion of the molecules that evaporate most rapidly and a relatively low proportion of the slow evaporating chemicals. After the first couple of fractions have been removed what's left behind in the wood is primarily the molecules that are slow to evaporate. They are the only thing that's left to accumulate. These will tend to have a more gentle aroma and will cling to your skin for longer because of that.

Short answer: Not only temperature but many parameters are precisely controlled at every stage of distillation, from the pH of the water (because water becomes more acidic during distillation) to the temperature of the hydrosol, the critical threshold for each note is different.
The difference between artisanal distillation and ordinary distillation is almost like the difference between a barbarian army and a Roman legion.
In a standard distillation, everyone with a stick, a sword or a sword fights without any order, but in artisanal distillation, it starts from the design of the equipment, the distance the steam will travel, the angle at which it will enter, the path it will take, how long it will spend there, which notes will undergo an early condensation and return to the boiler, which notes will be finally condensed,
So like a Roman legion, cavalry, armor, infantry, all with separate commands, where they should be
