Okay folks, have you ever wondered whilst travelling in the middle east what those wonderful fragrant fumes are from? In Arabic we call it Bakhoor, loosely translated in English to Incense. Unknown to many this is an art passed down generation after generation within families by the women. There are different types of Bakhoor for different occasions from greeting guests to treating the ill. That's right there are bakhoor that are formulated to treat different illnesses, the secrets of these formulas are kept with the women of the house.

Unfortunately this wonderful art is dying out in the middle east, as commercialisation takes over most aspects of our lives, now a days, its easier to go to the local store and get 'bakhoor' then it is to source rare ingredients and make them. Not only that but today even the ingredients available in most middle eastern based stores arent what they claim to be.

Here is a tribute to the Bedouin woman who would leave no stone un-turned, to source the finest of ingredients so that she could blend the gems in the Arabian house hold, MULOUK is our tribute to them and to keep this art alive;

KYARA STICKS - Floating Mountains

[Ouddict.com] The Art Of Incense Making

One by one – Inspiration, ideas, lots of effort:- bring your dreams to reality.

Many people stop at ideas because they don’t have the drive to do the work in making those ideas a reality. How many possibilities never made it and how great those ideas could have been had they made it.

An idea; sticks hand made from arguably the most fragrantly complex material known to man, Kyara.

Effort; whole process hand worked – grounding, kneading, hand rolled one by one. No third party, no contracting to factories or students, all done in house!

Know exactly what went into your sticks, Kyara and Oudh, then more Kyara and more Oudh, not just any oudh, but the best Oudh you can imagine.

Kyara Sticks – the hard work and dedication that goes into perfecting incense sticks is a true test of one’s patients and focus. Then a top that with the complexity of an ingredient such as Kyara. You don’t really have any chances to get it wrong…unless of course you want to go bankrupt.

I devoted a lot of the lockdown time to this composition, so it has a lot of reflection, resilience and a fighting spirit. The composition also speaks of past and future, of the highs and lows, the beauty and beast of the world we live in.

Deep, rich, meditative, reflections and projections. Opens with a lovely powdery apple skin note, then bitter cherries combined with a lovely woody note that is nearly floral. Comes along the sweet incense wafts that is figs and dates, before transition to a dance between the sweet and bitter, the dark and light shades.

There is ~20% Kynam in these sticks, supplemented royal grade Malaysian and Indonesian oudhs. One of my intentions in making these sticks was to share some beauty, joy and hope with as many people as possible, after the difficulty we have all been through and continue to go through.

Composition begins with an idea, then sourcing the ingredients for the idea, then preparing the ingredients – this can sometimes take days if not weeks, milling down everything to the right consistency. In my compositions I don’t grind every ingredient to the same size. I will vary size of ingredients based on their behaviour during combustion.

After the ingredients have been milled, then it’s time to make the dough and extrude. I find the extrusion very time consuming and straining as every stick has to be rolled one by one. I do everything myself, by hand and that is why it takes so long and the passion and love can be felt in the sticks.

This is incense sticks at for get levels but a total different dimension. These are fragrant at room temperature and they are a collectors item for any incense lover.

Respected @Al Shareef Oudh sent me a stick as a gift with my purchase. this incense is undoubtedly the highest quality incense I've ever smelled.
I even got a numbing effect in my mouth from burning it. which indicates how much kyara went into this stick. to my nose, it has green kyara scent profile I felt from Yamadamatsu's Hojo red.
but this one is a LOT intense. you don't need to burn a whole stick. I burnt about 1cm the other day and it filled up the whole house with a wonderful fragrance and lasted a whole day.

thank you @Taesik Yun @IntheRedwoods
I really tried to get as many people to experience these sticks just to share the art of true hand made sticks using highest quality compared to all other sticks, including those from incense houses which are these beautiful pretty sticks made by machines. Also as i had said in a previous post the more i smell incense house sticks the more i realise it is a smell they work to rather than highest grade ingredients.

good luck to those who got some, now those who have, have it, and those who dont, maybe you can smell it from those who have.

I have a piece I was blessed enough to receive from you as a sample. I have just now seen that this was recently made available in a small amount by you akh. I missed out.
I believe I shall refrain from using this small most prized gift from you for now...until I can replace it...
Thank you...

Incense making is time consuming but in a different way. Most my perfumery work, whether distilling, extraction or blending takes time, but you get breaks in between, but not with incense making. With incense making your break comes after you have extruded the sticks. During the blending, kneading and extruding it's go go go. As such for a while I haven't really had those windows where I could pour love into some new incense sticks.

I have a window coming, and I have gathered material for something special. It will be limited, if you are wondering what it will be have a read of the rest of this thread to get an idea 💡 hint. The progress will be shared here and on our IG @alshareefoudh. Very excited for this...

So the process moves forward - Falling Clouds

I just have not had the window of time that is required to pour the love, passion, energy and time into making incense. The last sticks, Floating Mountains is a standard of sticks that I made that goes beyond Japanese incense houses. It is the golden corner, the crown jewel of anyone's collection who was lucky enough to get some.

I hope Falling Clouds adds to that corner, the work has begun, not just now but before Ramadan. The work continues, incense making requires continued focus and effort. The only time one can take a break is when the sticks are finally done.
