Hello all, and thank you in advance for any advice. My apologies of these questions have already even asked 100 times. I purchased some Siberian musk grains from ninja Rob at cyber musk. They are fantastic, but I have a quick question: some websites suggest grinding the musk grains finer before putting them into oil. I am planning to use some aged sandalwood from Abdul Samdal Al Qurashi, around 30 years old. Any advice on percentage of my grains? My total amount of sandalwood is most likely around 5 g.

I also purchased some tinctures, 10% Mongolian and 20% Siberian in alcohol. Any suggestions on how best to wear these? Do you wear them straight up or mix with other fragrances?

Thanks again and apologies for the noob type questions

Not much point in grinding the grains at all. Just pop them into your oil of choice. and that is sufficient.

I’ve had great success with grinding. More crushing than grinding. I feel like the smell comes out quicker but it still has to age in the oil to reach full potential so in the end it may be a choice since the smell ends up in the oil either way. I am absolutely not an expert though so 🤷🏻‍♂️. I’ve just noticed the musk seems to be front and center after grinding rather than some of my other oils where I’ve just added loose grains and had to wait before I noticed them. Still, even though I can smell the musk right away it doesn’t smell finished and I can’t say whether it’s a shortcut. I also just enjoy doing it.

I second grinding, but for 5g you could end up wasting a lot of material. Since its your first time (I assume) macerating musk, just put the grains in the sandal and let it age for a few months.
As for the tincture, you can wear it raw but it could get overwhelming, I've had success blending musk tincture in rose or oud for a sprayable perfume, 20% would be too strong for the musk though so I'd suggest diluting it to 10% before using.
