Green first. Crushed stems, apple skin, a little sea breeze drifting in. There’s a wetness to it, wet moss and petrichor, the ground right after the rain stops. And somewhere behind all that, a splash of red Tartness. Didn’t see that coming.
Then it sweetens. Wild honey, beeswax, a spoonful of grape jam, rich but not syrupy. Forest floor hits hard here, fallen leaves, leaf litter. Smoke too, but ever so slight, like a campfire someone else lit down the road. A bit of tobacco. Milky, creamy, so soft and elusive.
Settles into damp soil and tree bark. Driftwood, tree sap, balsam. Leather with a dry edge. There’s salt in there as well, salted wood, interestingly. Solid, but never very heavy.
Running and standing still at the same time.
