From the sample I received: This is definitely a bright sunny oil, fresh fruits… Not cloyingly sweet. I would list it In the same general family as my revered Owari - Ceylon from YUSA… with a hint of resin in the heart.

Again, this passes the wife test, when I asked her to smell my wrist she pulled my wrist into her face and took a deep breath – – this is not a typical reaction from her by the way as she seems to be getting tired of me asking the smell my wrist two or three times a day

I really have The most patient kind sweet wife, and I probably shouldn’t wear her out like this! Another sample that was provided generously was an SQ rose perfume from 1989 that I gifted her and she wore yesterday while at work. After her meeting, She actually asked ME to smell of HER neck and wrist for the first time – – And said that she could smell the perfume through her online meeting

so perhaps she’s joining me on this journey more willingly.

Please save me a bottle of Oud du Soleil

I think one of the best things I did was to order the sample kit. And thank you for sending me a tiny sample of the final oil. This oil is insanely good obviously. But an ability to study each fractions separately, and then try mixing it together and then compare it with the original oil is an experience that I am really enjoying.
I obviously have a lot to learn. But a quick dab off all three fractions and a comparison against the final oil is giving me perspectives that I had not experienced before.
I really appreciate you agreeing to do this. And even being okay to distill the wood !

That's like some graduate level oud education right there

I would love to hear even a few words about each of the three samples and how they differ, if you had a few moments..,

Yeah each one was removed after a few days of collection. Now the waters being dried out after which I will add the oils back together. The lighter first pull is way more floral and light whereas the others are more richer and resinous, deeper aroma.
Is this to maximize oil retention and not lose it to the recycling process?

I think part of it is also just to secure valuables along the way so to speak. Things can go wrong with distillation, so removing and tucking away the oil as it accumulates is a good way to minimize your risk.

The idea of hanging onto the fractions and then balancing them in a kind of perfume making process is an interesting thought... not sure if anyone is doing this..
