Tennendo Frankincense and coffee while I’m on hold with these bastards that have been holding my household goods in “shipment” for four weeks. WoooSaahhhhhh.

Hojo White and a Kona Brewing Pale Ale.

I can appreciate Hojo White a bit more than Green. Today, it’s displaying more herbal/medicinal and animalic/musky tones with a hint of Kyara, making it more enjoyable than originally perceived. I still think it’s best enjoyed from afar but I’m warming up to what is going on with this stick more so than before. Not as powdery sweet today. Cheers!

Cultivated white kyara 66%, charcoal 17%, elm bark 17%
grinding kyara was very tricky due to its high oil to resin ratio. so I had to freeze it.

the result? hmm... not so satisfied. I guess it burns at too high temperature. the subtle nuances are lost.

Burning a stick of Kumo no Sho by Gyokushodo with my morning coffee.

Really enjoyable Jinko forward blend with spicy, sweet, slightly musky, and resinous tones. One of my favorite Gyokushodo sticks that rivals the rich aloes aspect of Yamadamatsu’s Sasora. This is one I would buy a box of, especially being $50 cheaper than Sasora, but presented as more of a blend. Cheers!

Matsuba Pine by Shunkohdo this afternoon.

A very pleasant daily burn kinda thing with dark green, spicy-sweet, dry woody, and warm earthy tones.

At eight bucks, I grabbed a pack.

Dr. Incense Assam

This region does produce wonderful incense sticks. I am reminded of many Hindi oud oil swipes😊
As someone who is a self proclaimed Hindi wood fanatic, I have to say I would love to see more artisan level sticks sporting these profiles!

Yamadamatsu Rakoku after a rough day.

Wow. Sweet, resinous, Oudy, powerful Thai Agarwood scent. Bing bong!

I got a sampler of Gyokushodo’s other “premium” incenses and tried Keiun Koh which is a sandalwood forward blend. It reminded me of the “dry” woody qualities Yamadamatsu’s Kayo. It’s a good room scent/daily burn kinda thing.

I also tried Buntoku this morning and I enjoy this one a bit more. It has a nice complexity to it between the aloes, sandal, spikenard, etc. it’s complex and contemplative yet somewhat heady. Very nice blend.

It’s supposed to be Malabar coast, is it not? Southern Hindi wood?
When I Google Manaban Agarwood I get varied information, but for my personal curiosity, I go by what I smell, and KZ’s Manaban stumps me. It somehow reminds me of Pontianak, Malaysian, and Tarakan….but without their perfume.

Very interested to try the Manaban stick I got now lol
