Might have been the case, because this time around he was working with his newly established, secret incense factory (his words on Instagram, not mine). I think the bundle should have been broken down into two sets, I like @GLTASN only ordered the 5 most expensive offerings, the Tang dynasty, and the Four Discarded incense didn't peak my interest, and for the money I'd be saving on the bundle, I could've picked up another box of Hainan, Nanban, or Annam, which is I assume most people did.

The two I skipped were no doubt technically more difficult to make than the others, but I never felt like if I didn't get them now, I would be able to find them later on. Did you end up getting the bundle or any individual packs, zahir?
Bundle. I'm a sucker, yeah. Go ahead and say it 😛

Unfortunately for me all those sticks were out of my budget range. Didn't get much this time, just the cloud censer and a 5g bottle of the Wild Merauke Asgon powder.
No worries Olfactory Nomad, there'll be other goodies soon enough! That Asgon was a brilliant score!

Nope, not saying it hahahaha 😆

Dreams of Nanban in the office today

Oudy goodness in stick form. It is so beautifully refined. I am going to compare it to old nanban tonite. I remember, I loved that one too.
One of my interns asked about it and bought the entire KZ set right away! I guess I have someone to talk about incense at work too now.

Kangiiten Premium Daily Cambodi, Aloeswood Sticks. A nice blend of Southern and Central Cambodian woods. A very nice, soothing, uplifting, and grounding incense.

Lovely, simple notes, that make me love to revisit these sticks from time to time, had these for a while now and still have a ton left as I dont use them very often.

Notes of a nice, soft, subtle minty undertone that is definitely, very perceivable. Lovely woody notes, and a nice sweet red multiple berry fruits, and a tangy, light, sour red cherry. As it burns the fruits become a very jammy, all mashed up into one fruity jam note, chocolate cake with a good amount of the jam covering it, very gourmand. It has a nice cooling (probably to do with the crassna mintiness) effect. Very resinous notes throughout as it burns and feels like you are burning some decent Cambodian wood.

There is also some jungle greenery notes that I am starting to recognize post-burn, and some earthiness.

Very simple incense, that is uplifting mood wise, and grounds you to the here and now, and the scent (for me anyway, I have incense smells stuck to my house walls, since I have used so much sticks over the past year and burn woods quite a lot too, so it could linger for someone longer than it does for my nose as it starts to blend in with the overall smell of the house) lingers for a good amount of time of around 30-45 mins to an hour, maybe slightly perceivable for 1.25 hours.

There's most likely notes that are still revealing themselves to me, but since I don't burn them often, they will reveal quite slowly.

Appreciate the detail you went into here Renton!! This one is very seldom talked about and I've been on the fence about it for ages, but it sounds quite tempting given your description.

Have you had a chance to try their Super Green Kynam sticks, from the same line, or their Agar Clouds pressed incense ? And if so, what were your general thoughts on them ?

Shunkohdo Kyara Houzan

Testing my new box against the one I got prior to this.
I can’t discern any difference,
it’s like they’re identical.

Kotaro included a stick of
Tennendo Enkuu Green Kyara
No spices here, it seems like Tennendo’s version of Seikado’s Gokujo Green Kyara Koh.
Initially I’m not impressed, but I’ll have to do a side by side comparison of the two with a fresh nose.

Update:
Enkuu Green Kyara is more woody (agarwood) than Gokujo Green Kyara Koh,
and the kyara note is not as strong nor as desireable for “my taste”.

Gokujo Green Kyara Koh has a nice kyara note, but for “my taste”, I prefer the older batch Gokujo Kyara Koh, it’s more kinamic.

I've not tried them yet, no. The only incense I have got from Kangiiten are these, Ambon Soil and Prof. Mysore. I would definitely recommend these though!!!

And thank you for the compliments. 🙂

Sorry for not replying sooner, I didn't see that you quoted me haha.

Is the Tennendo incense you are talking about, these ones? Also, I have heard it is good to put tiny pieces (like 0.25 - 0.5inch) of Kyara incense's onto the heater and see what you get out of it that way as well. That should release notes in a more concentrated way... I would imagine. Then from there you can decide what sticks have a good amount of Kyara and ones that are basically non existent with the kyara and basically just have enough of it to call it a "Kyara" stick... so annoying what some houses are doing with their Kyara incenses.

Yes, that’s the stick. I’ll try heating some.

I have both of those. I actually find the Super Green sticks a bit much and have only burnt a couple. The Agar clouds are also very strong and smell very kinamic also. I have the larger ones and they go for a good hour. Burning in my unit is sometimes too much concentration of smoke as I learnt the other day when I was burning the nine regions kynam sticks outside and they were wonderful.

@me when you test it please, you have to put these little lines ( - ) when you @ me though. I have stumbled across the forum were people just say @Renton and I have never seen it because it doesnt have the dashes. I would ask for a change in name but I dont think its that hard to do just @-Ren then my name pop ups below it lol. My forum name has always been dash renton dash.

The Cambodi sticks we are talking about as well produce tons of smoke for how little, petite, skinny things they are lol. But produces NO off notes, and is completely amazing scent, hence why I do not burn them a lot, I want to keep them for a long time before having to buy another box, because I am hooked on the Cambodi Blend sticks by them. Next sticks I am getting is Nha Trang by the Professor, but before that some woods.

All those Kangiiten daily's are on the wish list. $104 a box is a bit steep for me just atm though.

@-Renton-

Just tested the Enkuu Kyara on the heater.
At very low I got a faint powdery sweet kyara note, when I turned up the heat the kyara note didn’t last long, and was replaced by baked goods and a woodiness from agarwood. No resinous notes, and no resin left on the mica sheet either.

That is weird. Did you crush the small nub up or just placed it on the heater (I dont think you need to crush it though)? Do you think Japanese incense houses, lets say specifically Tennendo do actually have aloeswood in their sticks that are stated to have aloes in? Only asking because there was no resin, but on my heater I can heat agarwood without much resin coming out at all but still the aroma even at 220c.

I crushed it first. I think that Tennendo does have actual aloeswood in their aloeswood sticks, I even have Tennendo aloeswood powder that I got from Japan Incense, it is Thai aloeswood. Japanese Incense Houses have tons of aloeswoods from different regions and grades and wild or cultivated.

I just noted the lack of resin in my report, but not to suggest the absence of aloeswood. The aloeswood note in that stick reminds me of Shunkohdo’s Vietnam Kanhoa stick.

Ahh. Was just wondering, I know the Japanese have stock piles of all kinds of aloeswood lol. And probably have more wild hon-kyara and definitely more wild shin-kyara than they let out to have.
