Sticks contain binders (with ultra few exceptions)Why is it though that none of my pure agarwood sticks smell even close to the same as wood on my subitism? I know it's combustion vs slowly heating, but I'm always suspicious that the wood vendors put in their sticks isn't what they claim. It would be so easy to take photos of the exact wood being used, and I rarely see that... Most of Dr. Incense sinking sticks are 15+/gram and there are vendors selling sinking wood for that or less. For that reason, I've been avoiding sticks more and more lately....
so there will always be differences, compared to the raw agarwood chip, not to mention that Dr. Incense processes his sticks with an overnight parboil soak in water and honey.
Also, with agarwood chips, region to region to cross regions, hardly any two are identical.
Also, with sticks, sometimes, other aromatics are included in the recipe.
And lastly, with both sticks and chips, how you heat them greatly influences the aromatic experience. The variables are endless.
However, you should follow the path that suits you well.
For me, at times I crave my sticks that are more aromatic centric, than agarwood centric. But at other times...staight-up agarwood sticks and chips.
I’m really captured by all things Aloes, from sticks and chips, to barn and non barn oils.
