Shunkohdo Kyara Seikan

This has got to be in my Top 5
But it falls under the woodsy type
just like Ranjatai

Woody, agarwoody,
and the tiniest bit resiny
with a shadow of chocolate vibe
and a micro whisper of Kyara

How do roots smell compared to other regions of the trunk or whatever? Is there a rule of thumb?

KZ launched this incense stick... it does have the core Malinau profile but I get more woody under tone to it .... i dont know if it's the root or the way the incense was made difficult to say. Havent got an opportunity to Burn only the Malinau root.

Enjoying Rasoul’s Vietnamese stick

Double, Triple, and Kinam.
Even a touch of Brunei Kinam.

I’ve been heating some Vietnamese chips lately,
so I really “get” this stick,
the sweetness is there,
and some oudiness as in oud oil,
and zowie!......mind buzz akin to
arteries and veins opening up in my brain.

Kyukyodo Murasakino

Plenty of aromatics in this stick,
I get a floral/opopanax vibe,
with agarwood too,
and a miniscule amount of
musk and ambergris,
I doubt it’s real deer musk or
raw ambergris, anyhow... it’s just a
supportive feel, not a main note.

Yamadamatsu's Oju.
Nutty, Ghee butter-like profound Kalimantan agarwood. very soothing and grounding...
most 'black' incense I've ever smelt.

Yamadamatsu Kyara Firebird Hojo Red

New batch versus old batch.

Both have similar aromas but certainly not the same,
the old one is sweeter, with the agarwood resin more prominent, the new one has more of a balance between agarwood and binder, and has that roasted agarwood vibe as in the ShuJu series. I am guessing that the new stick contains less kyara, but has more agarwood instead.
Bottom line....both are good, but I don’t feel compelled to get a whole box, because the new batch doesn’t have the profile that I am after, but like I said....both are good.

Was able to sample the Ouju (Oju),
it’s a nice stick to create an aura of aroma,
but for close appreciation, I would rather light up a stick that isn’t as aromatically strong. Same with Minorien Kyara Chokoh no.5, you have to give it space.

Dr. Incense Cambodi
The sweetness reminds me of Vietnamese chips.

Seijudo Kyara Enju
After making my Pinoy Privee sticks which were chock full of oleoresin...it made me learn to appreciate this stick even more....I’m certain that decent Kyara pieces went into this recipe.

Revisited Yamadamatsu Oju quickly
A very likeable aroma.

Does anyone else get ill from burning stuff? Frankincense, agarwood, sticks, etc. all do the same for me. I find that I can't do it indoors very often because I start to cough, but I absolutely love the smell. It sucks.

I have to practice responsible burning.
For me that means not too much smoke inhalation,
and knowing which substances I can burn more than others based on it’s harshness and how it affects me.

Refreshing morning with a Baieido's Byakudan Kokonoe Koh. better than Byakudan Kobunboku, worse than Byakudan KoKoh.
pretty good bang for bucks.
