Kida Jinseido Hanakokonoe

First I think... enjoy the wonderful scent,
then I wonder.... what ingredient creates
the bitterness?
(wish I had the recipe)

Slight vanilla, butter, and a fruity feel like Malinau.

next up.....

A Mysore sandalwood stick that had a quick dip into one of my ambergris tinctures, then allowed to dry.
The concentration of ambergris in the tincture was so high, that a second dip was not necessary. I think I will reserve my ambergris tinctures solely for use with incense because in blends they are nearly obscured. Anyway, I love the ambergris note in incense:Inlove:

My couple of experiences heating ambergris have been very positive. Was this stuff ever used to fumigate? I know there’s that Sargent painting - “Fumée D’Ambre gris” (that’s more or less the title if I recall) which shows a white-clad woman fumigating her garments.

Mysore sandalwood incense from Kevin band. (DH gate)
milkiest sandalwood I've ever smelt.
smells very milky, sweet. strong, intense, but light in scent.
made with 90% Mysore sandalwood bead waste, 10% binder. 1mm diameter which is thinner than most incense.
it burns about 35~40 minutes and it cost approximately $0.06 per stick.
re-usable beautiful rosewood incense tube is a big plus.

Holy Lord what kind of stock of incense do you have? You've paraded most of the incense I like and the ones I don't have, not to mention your own amazing creations.

I have to practice responsible burning.
For me that means not too much smoke inhalation,
and knowing which substances I can burn more than others based on it’s harshness and how it affects me.
Which subsstances irritate more for you? Sandalwood powder does it for me and my wife. Smoke in all forms irritates I think. So now, I burnt some blue-green hojary frankincense for about 5 minutes. I just grabbed a small piece of old agarwood in my hand and began to walk to another room ready to burn it. My wife shut me down and dared me to burn it. Tomorrow is another day.

There are some I missed out, like the Jayapura and Pursat of Dr., plus several of KZ’s offerings, and I never tried Shunkohdo Kyara Houzan, but it’s all good.... I am happy with what I have, plus I intend to make stick versions from all the agarwood chips in my collection, even Kevin’s Kinam. So that should add another 30 varieties😱, and I also want to make incense blends with my stock pile of sandalwood, may even offer it on ebay, but time....oh time.....where art thou? So much to do...but so busy at work....my subitism isn’t even built yet, I’ve procrastinated two years already😕

Certain incense irritate me more than others, which I attribute to the aromatics and not the wood, because I can heat agarwood and sandalwood with little to no irritation. But combustion equals smoke no matter how you slice it, so it is prudent to minimize smoke inhalation😉

Yamadamatsu's Hojo red(Firebird red)

I have only 3 sticks of it as a sample.

My nose is not developed enough to catch all nuances in this kyara incense. this one is very delicate and subtle. very hard to describe.
my sense of smell is 6 out of 10 today. so that might be the reason.

ethereal(quite not like other ethereal though), silky soft, sweet(very little), mineral is all I can say about this one. and it reminds me of kyara incense from Taiwan incense house. maybe I should try their offering again.
I'm not gonna burn this one until my sense of smell is at peak.

@Oudamberlove how would you describe this incense?

Quickly....
I would describe the aroma as sweet like maple syrup, plus roasted peanut shells, plus a resiny agarwood.
But there’s more going on, and the blend is very tight that it will take several sessions of listening to unlock more facets.
Lovely stick:Thumbsup:
