Hi guys,

Our wild Hainan distillation has started, took me 2 days to get the pot up and running and we started the run 2 hours ago ! I will post updates of the wood etc this week !

For this one im running our newly built electrical setup, got the still isolated and jacketed so i can play around with the temperatures more.

I wanted to soak the Hainan before throwing it in but, couldnt wait 😂 so this will be a looong non soak distillation for you guys!

your initial experience:



Soaking Process: Was the raw agarwood material soaked prior to distillation, and if so, for how many days? Or was it loaded directly into the still dry?





Temperature Control: What temperature range did you maintain throughout the run, and was it kept constant or adjusted periodically during distillation?





Water-to-Wood Ratio: What was the exact ratio of water to raw agarwood material used in the pot?





Cohobation System: Does your setup include a return/cohobation line to feed the floral water (hydrosol) back into the boiler after oil separation?





Internal Agitation: Is the boiler equipped with an internal mechanical stirrer (agitator), similar to traditional Thai distillation setups?





False Bottom / False Floor: Is there a bottom grid or perforated tray installed above the heat source to prevent the wood from burning at the base of the boiler?

No soak.

Temp differs.

Water to wood ratio, everyone has his own ratio. Wood was approx 5.5 kg.

Yes, hydrosol returns.

Agitator yes.

False bottom, our still is jacketed so it does not come in touch with direct heat(like a flame etc).

So many questions! hah, and here I'm just wondering how you managed to find wild hainan wood in quantities enough to distill, rarer than hens teeth and most of the stuff on the ground is fake (not saying yours is at all obviously, only that its a janky market)

Huh. I was under the impression that wild oud on hainan island was basically over harvested to extinction a bit ago, or poached out of the park without cites. TIL, seems like good news it's not the case!

Day 15
Time is up, no more oil left to give.
Time to clean the still and on to our Kelantan distillation. We have another very special distillation coming up, more about that we will explain soon !

Oil was already curing since we have taken the first drops, took some basenotes the past days also.
We are evaluating the oil for a day or 2 now to write a description, many people have asked about this one and reserved some of it. Because of this reason we will put this oil up on a pre order basis before it is all reserved privately and gone.
