Well, speaking as someone who has been into Oud for 25 years, but not able to wear it often due to work and other social restrictions, and who has recently been able to rediscover it, I welcome this development 100%. IF there had been somewhere like this that I could've been referred to earlier in the past two years when, and before I wasted £000's on 'Commercial synthetic "rubbish" (IMHO) Oud, then i) I'd have saved myself a LOT of money, ii) I'd have been familiarising myself with real, natural and authentic products and have a much larger and better collection, and iii) I'd have been supporting the work of real artisans and perfumers; lads who'se work needs support to survive and grow, rather than large commercial companies who are only interested in squeezing the most out of anyone who takes an interest in this hobby.
I only really discovered 'Oud' at last year's SentExpo in London. I met some very decent lads, tried some beautiful work, spent ages in a friendly, fun atmosphere that was all about this hobby that I'm thoroughly enjoying, spent some £'s, and made relationships I've invested in since - and that includes becoming a member of this site/place and sharing with you guys. I'm glad to be here, and I'm sure this new site will be a great place for me to invest time, care, and friendship, as well as find avenues to invest money in my hobby. Sure, there's an opportunity for 'sharp practice', and nothing beats testing a product live, meeting the people who make it face-to-face, and forming a relationship that way, but not everyone can do that, especially given the disparate membership this site has. Hopefully, with the right regulations, boundaries, and terms of reference for artisans and perfumers, and for purchasing members to work within, it could do well. They will need to be well thought out. Anyways, I wish you good luck, guys! You have my support.
