Imagine some jeweler who doesn’t have gold, doesn’t even really know why gold is even precious or what makes gold gold, then he makes a ring, uses a couple yellow metals like brass, and the rest a bunch of other metals…then tags the ring with a 24k gold stamp because it looks yellow 😂🤣 and a lot of people buy it… kinam baby!!! Kyara!!!

Another guy knows why gold is gold… has some real gold….makes a ring but doesn’t use any gold in the composition…but the ring is yellow and shiny so he stamps it with a 14k gold stamp….the ring looks gold so I stamped it with a 14k

Another guy does use a little bit of pure gold in his ring and also other yellow metals, about 10% gold, then goes ahead and stamps the ring with a 24k……

What’s the difference between these guys….I mean yellow metals all look like gold so why is it a problem to label them as gold? Kyara baybay lol kynammmm baaaayby!! Chachiiiiiiiing 🤑

Probably the best and most apt analogy I’ve seen in regards to this debate. This breaks it down so perfectly. The parallels are there as well.

Think about the prestige that comes within your own personal feelings having what you think is a massive gold chain necklace and you wear it with pride and then someone says “hey that isn’t gold”. It makes sense why that person would be offended that you just insulted their source of pride and destroyed the illusion for them.

But at the end of the day people are allowed to say and do whatever they want and I respect that. I don’t want to hurt people in this community either. This is such a touchy and sore subject for so many on here I’m probably gonna leave it alone like OudDude said.

Yea people can say or love what they wish it’s a blessing. It’s just when talking specifics one shouldn’t get hurt because they thought they had a clue but really didn’t lol

In some ways it is a very apt analogy as the term is abused. But then gold is an element and has a precise and scientific definition and that is where the analogy breaks down.

exactly. And people can say something is golden without having any sinister motive to try to convince anybody that it's actually real gold.

Anyway it's good to vent this stuff once in a while but this is nothing new and getting a little boring I guess (but nobody here has to entertain me, so have at it)

Any precious thing will create temptation to cheat. There's nothing special about kinam or kyara in that respect.

People sometimes use adjectives inappropriately when they are learning to use them even if they are not actually trying to cheat.

Cheaters suck, but I don't think that applies to most of the people who are expressing their enthusiasm for oud here, so no harm done. Just be sure to enjoy yourself and not spend all your time stressing out over it and sweating about the negative things 🙂

Also there is a case for fake gold made of other metals. Calling it 24k gold is obviously deceptive because 24k has a defined meaning like you said.

You might a “golden” ring made of brass with the understanding that it’s not real gold, but imitates the properties of gold.

Same with kinam. It can have some notes reminiscent of kinam without being the full experience. The issue is when that is not properly communicated to the customer.

one mans trash is another mans kinam LOL
this whole topic is the reason so many vendors sell agarwood as kyara. not saying it happens in this forum but many chinese/vietnamese vendors do it and also etsy and other sources. i stretched the topic a bit you can tell i been bored its just blah blah blah.. truth is i do love kinamic oils still lol

The market is just booming right now and everyday more and more. The worst is when they sell their cheap oil for 5-10k and still find people believing and buying it 😉

Apologies in advance for stretching the topic further…
So what i read is basically Gold vs Golden and the problem comes in when somebody tags Golden as the Gold.
You could always test the legitimacy of the gold without losing it but for Kyara, you gotta be burning it and gotta be a kyarasmith to tell if it is legit.
Do we expect to have such measurement standards drawn in the future somehow, to tell the legitimacy and grade of the wood 🥹 ???

I myself have burnt thousands of dollars in the pursuit, ending up with avoiding anything that says “kinamic” 😂

To me (correct me if i am wrong please) in a nutshell, Kinamic constitutes as the accords of herbal sweetness likes of honey alongside the bitter bite of turpentine …

Which is a subset of the actual kyara experience.

Sorry again guys! If it was redundant, i always stay on the listening side of the spectrum but a lot of guys encouraged me to start talking…

I think the original question was about if there is any oil resembling kinam, then as the kinam topic is very famous for multiple detours we got into gold and golden comparison.
