In regards to Toc Bong, I’ve tried it 5 or 6 times now and it’s very enjoyable, but I've been unable to recreate the first experience I had with it. The first experience was a concentrated full monkoh study session that rewarded me with a swatch of complex florals and a presentation style that I wasn't too familiar with. I also hallucinated Ceram, honeysuckle, magnolia, a dense rose, and possibly jasmine within the fanning swatch. Subsequent heatings have been challenge to get that perfect temperature, and perhaps that perfect sliver or fragment.
It is beautiful, and when it hits, it hits. Most commonly, I’ve experienced flashes of sweet florals that surface and quickly submerge again along with wafts of a cool honey breeze. I was told to look for a cantaloupe reference, but I haven’t seen it yet. This wood reminded me to appreciate the special moments as they happen, and to let go of expectations or permanence. I'll try it again soon with some other local oud lads and see what we find on their burners.
I was asked if there was any similarity to Toc Bong and Guallam Antique, and the answer is none whatsoever. Guallam Antique is an attar in comparison, or a rich dessert mousse. G.A.'s accord could be paired with leather wingback chairs, tobacco pouches, and rosewood paneling.
I'm hoping KZ is kind enough to let us experience more of these beauties. It's a thrill to try them.
