Burning a mixture of Tabu, cultivated kinam, patchouli, haisoko and Reiryoko as a scent trail on the trigram burner.

Instead of combining the powders ahead of time, i layered them. Sprinkled in a layer of tabu. Cultivated kinam on top of that and then the three herbs on top. These powder trail burners make experimenting much easier

Haisoko (lysimachia) and Reiryoko (agastache) are not particularly interesting on their own, they are harsh and smell like burning leaves

but the scent aura created by the incense is noticeably different in a pleasant way. patchouli also has a burning leaf scent with that peppery aspect, and in general mixtures smell better with a decent % of leafy material to my nose. That burning leaf smell is captivating and evocative of fall…

I would say I will continue including all three of these ingredients for their combined cozy burnt leaf / peppery scent combination. I would tend to go a little heavier on the patchouly because it’s just so freaking pleasant.

Nusa - ASO. Not your typical high grade looking wood by any means, but the aroma is superb.
I should’ve picked up a large amount of this while it was available!
Oceanic / salty, fresh fruity top notes, floral & green in the middle, mossy yet balsamic sweet & resin dense in the base.
I love Nusa from ASO. I even have Nusa the oil and I love it. Enjoy it!

I agree, the oil is excellent.
I used a lot of it during the summer just gone by. It has the most vivid oceanic note I’ve smelt in any Oud oil to date.
I get a strong impression of the ‘terroir’ from which the tree existed. Oceanic, mango, Rose, green notes, moss, vanilla. Great stuff.

The patchouli sounds like a fascinating addition to the mix
I actually think it plays a significant role in a variety of the Japanese sticks that have smelled, many where the patchouli is not evident in itself. My experience with extruded Japanese style incense is quite limited, however.

Himalayan Juniper, spikenard, haisoko, Reiryoko and patchouli. This Juniper is a great sent. I have to try to find more of it.

it would be very easy to make a functional burner of this type if you have a 3d printer. Pick some shallow bowl that you can partially fill with ash, design a stencil the same diameter as the bowl and print away.

I’m going to try to design some of my own stencils for this at some point. It would be interesting to try to come up with designs that are pleasing and also maximize the trail length.

Sei-gen koh from kangiiten on their octagonal brass censer. The powder unburned smells like a combination of lovage/celery and classic Japanese Buddhist medicinal incense masala.

Combusting, it has a burning herb/spice mixture note. I’m not smelling any sandalwood or agarwood in the mix.

The lid greatly slows down the rate of combustion. With this particular mixture, on first impression, it slows down a little bit too much, and starts to develop a kind of smoky/creosote note so this mixture i will burn without the lid. But it’s actually pretty well designed to extend the burn time and I think if I were to put this in a room and walk away, I would leave the lid on.

I’m unclear on whether you’re supposed to add a bit of ash I need to do the stencil or just burn directly on the brass. I tried both, when it was directly on the brass. Some of the herbal mixture did not combust completely so I then added about a millimeter of ash and packed down lately to allow little airflow under the mixture.

This is a very nice piece - does not feel cheap like many other incense burners that I have encountered. It’s small - 2 inches in diameter. I didn’t read the description carefully so that was a little bit of a surprise, but I actually am glad it is so compact. It is a very nice solid quality item that I am proud to have.

Can’t wait to mix up some of my own powders. I will be trying these out over the next week or two.View attachment 28289View attachment 28290View attachment 28293
You must first layer the base with clean ash.

I put a piece of Hong Kong on charcoal this morning. @Hamza H kindly included this beauty in a recent order. All of the copious amounts of resin have finished bubbling up and it's been sitting quietly for some time on the coal -- I'm so impressed with the subtle fragrance it STILL emits. I now have a newer understanding of Tennyson's it's better to have love and lost than to have never loved at all.

WOW WOWZER WOWEEE ~ YUSA Y U S A (Filipino)

The beauty of these pieces first. JING quality center fold deliciousness. A tiny amount on the warmer radiates an earthy, nutty, tea. Buying from Kani is always a gift.

I hope you won't mind if I digress to express my appreciation. I was lucky at the dawn of internet sales to encounter a very talented painter/ artist. Now a mentor and best friend. What I learned from her was a certain refinement that went beyond the art of presentation. It was an integrity in business. I watched and admired how she dealt with people and went about her business, how she treated other human beings. I learned from her that when I make a mistake, that I don't pass that along to someone else. I eat it. Her magnificent pieces could be sold for so much more, because she is simply is one of the finest collectors. The most gorgeous page on all of instagram, but she doesn't gouge people, not ever.

Kani is one of those people, a collectors collector. He shares his good fortune, and is a blessing to everyone who crosses his path. And that inspires me on so many levels to be a better person.

Trying out some green kyara from the baieido rikoku set. I don’t open this up enough…

The smell is quite nice, lots of aroma for such small pieces. Very clean sweet vanilla note as the scent progresses. I would not say I got anything otherworldly out of this particular burn, just a very nice robust kinam / sinensis smell that is toasty and appealing. I only used three very small scrapings, next time I will put a little bit more on the subitism.
