Hojari, from Oman. Got this from puresacra a year ago or so. It arrived smelling as if it had been stored in a small space with many bottles of perfume, I don’t know if this is due to storage or due to some kind of “packaging perfume” (which is a thing I’m told).

All of that distracting smell is gone and on the subitism it is smelling fantastic. The initial tart almost sour turpentine / pine notes are balanced by the softer deep dry resin and sweet bubbling frankincense notes.

On the subitism frank requires a little bit of attention to both get a good cloud and avoid charred notes. I also use a larger mica sheet, so that any oil that oozes out the resin doesn’t get onto the coil. Looking at this picture, I am reminded that I need to sand down / lightly resurface the stone block… the soapstone polishes really quickly and repeated handling creates smooth spots that look like someone picked it up with greasy hands.

Today it was time to burn some wood and learn more about the different profiles.
I have a sample pack from The Attar Store.
I started with the mysore vintage sandalwood. A beautiful classic sandalwood aroma.
Sinking Leyte - this was an amazing experience, a trip!
Started with a floral, earthy and oudy blast. Then some citrussy aspects joined and its like a bakhoor mix 😆 Later its more jungly and earthy.
After that some viet incense - Floral and leathery scent. A bold profile close to what I am used to smell in arab world.
Brunei - I need a round 2 with this. Floral and classic oudy smell. Didnt smell special for me.
Kalinantan - its my favorite for now
Its so complex oceanic, salty, floral a whiff of this and a whiff of that.

Thank you for the experience brother Hamza 😁
Good for you brother! Leyte is sublime indeed! I love it!
Brother @Hamza H has great stuff on his store!
Enjoy! 🌹

I finally got a Subitism burner built and can finally try some Agarwood and Sandalwood. I am really enjoying this little burner. On here today I am burning Agarwood from the Hills of Bandarban Bangladesh. I am not hip to all the descriptive lingo but am really enjoying this wood. Leaving the home smelling quite wonderful.

Experimenting with mixtures - this has patchouli leaf, sandalwood, aloeswood, spikenard root, cinnamon, mako, Borneo camphor, kaiko and Sumatra benzoin. Majority of these are from Yamada Matsu

It is vaguely in the baieido style. While I would never claim to be able to imitate one of their mixtures well, I just do not add any perfume and using the same basic spices so it has that medicinal style.

This mix reminds me of Kai un koh but with a little more sandalwood and a less rich and complex scent. It is burning much better than my other mixtures which often would go out. I attribute this to the higher % of patchouli and spikenard in this mix, which seem to cause better combustion

Are these chips from Nippon Kodo or sticks?

ive only experienced the lowest tier of incense from this company, which is price very much for daily consumption.

It sounds like they make some top shelf incense as well…

Is there an online catalog in Japan or somewhere that has the full range of their products? I’m really curious because I haven’t paid enough attention to this company.

I keep seeing positive reviews from you and I feel like you have a unique perspective on incense, and I am intrigued

@Mr.P

It is Nippon Kodo’s woodchips for their Sizuro electric heater.

I got mine at Rakuten Japan and at Kohgen, but I stocked-up before the price doubled during the last price increase.

Here are the links:

Here is their Japan website:

If tried only around eight different sticks from Nippon Kodo, they’re quite perfumey,
but I like the Superior Line.
