I feel like it’s considerate to leave the photos as thumbnails (so it’s up to the viewer to choose to look at them), but aesthetically speaking I like it when people put the images in the body of the post.

I was revisiting a sample of Malinau malaccensis from Ward Lab - this wood has this dank heavy narcotic minty opening - completely appealing and backed by sweet and spicy resin and vanillin. Such a unique profile. There is one wood in my baieido rikoku set that is essentially the same profile - I won’t embarrass myself by taking a guess at it. I have notes somewhere and it has been too long since I’ve visited that set.

Burning a crumb of Qang Nam crassna from ward lab. This one is really one of my favorites at the moment. I still am trying to understand regional profiles better and catch up with some of the aficionados around here.

i am surprised how much overlap there is between Vietnamese crassna wood and the sinensis / kinam profile. I really did not expect that based on my experience of crassna oils.

West Borneo from JDHawk
I got it many years ago.
Sinking chips full of resin and definitely old stock.
Subdued florals with a touch of powdery resin, and a satisfying oudiness that’s quite rounded.
I compared it to Nippon Kodo Borneo, which had bright fruity florals, and a sharper resin note, with a tiny hint of pepper/spice.

The name rings a bell, who is/was it?

Jdhawk50 is a member in this forum, but even before that I got some oudh from him, I also tried Kyara for the first time through him, it was Shoyeido square cut. The oudhs were from West and North Borneo. He also made some Neriko (kneaded incense formed into balls) which contained real deer musk.

Yes, that user goes way back. I wonder what he’s up to?

Another blast of that minty Wardlab malinau. Tasty wood!

ahhh yes that'd be why!

Just a quick question? Reading through some of the comments here and everyone is pretty much saying they are "burning" their woods. Even some woods that I thought were to precious to burn such as "sinking". Does "burning" in this context mean physical combustion or heating on and electric or kodo and charcoal? Needing a little clarification.

Heat them pls

I think it is often used in a broad sense to mean using a coal or subitism to heat wood at a range of temperatures
