I don't think anybody wants to hear what my burn of the day is anymore…lol because I just get way too much of a kick out of properly heated green CK as my mainichi koh and I'm like a broken record here. Perfect for low temperature, low smoke, clean fragrance pretty much universally appreciated by anybody introduce to it. A great thing to burn in between the wild Baieido green kyara sessions.

I have a big box full of all kinds of woods but when it comes to a clean home fragrance that I know visitors will enjoy, and that puts me in a meditative state, the green ck is a miracle.
I agree. It's a great one for set and forget as well. Alway's guaranteed a nice steady vapor at whatever heat range. Personally, I love the vanilla notes that come out only at the end when you're pushing it as high as it will go before becoming burnt. It's really something else. The longevity that you can keep a chip going for is also astounding. Have you tried heating your "spent" chips from extraction at all? I'd be curious to know how much love they still have to give after you have given them a good soak.

I have tried heating the spent chips, there's really pretty much nothing left but you do get some vanillin aroma from the wood fiber so it's still more or less pleasant. Just none of the resin or really oud specific notes

Finally received this today. Bought on recommendation from @TheOudDood. It's pretty wild stuff! This is the Hainan Kynam agarwood I'm referring to. There is HEAPS of it to play with in the bottle. What an amazing scent. This is a new one for me. I'm on 10 volts on the sub with it and it's releasing a very strong scent. Fruity in some way. Not in the overripe sense that you get in some oils but more like a crisp fresh apple or something. Edit...having now gone a little hotter, I'm getting very strong oud notes. Very clearly A Sinensis.

Where did you buy this from?

Looks great, and I like how it says “sleep aid.” Calling out to all insomniacs!

Does it smell like Cultivated Kinam?

Where would I get some, and what is your preferred method of burning it?

it is widely available, I ordered mine from a source that I first heard about here called Broadlink. They sell cultivated green kinam chips, and they don't use any inoculation liquid or chemicals on their trees. this involves ordering from China but there are vendors here who carry different types of cultivated kinam which will be pretty similar and maybe closer to you. i have specimens from @Al Shareef Oudh and @Maunamoku and kangiiten that are also quite nice.

This material is best heated at low to moderate temperature, does not do so well when it's combusted because it develops a strong wood fiber smell once the oil evaporates.

so I tend to put a few small chips on a piece of mica on my subitism set so that i can just barely see a trail of smoke / vapor rising from the chips. I generally cut them so they are thin flat pieces not chunks

I don’t have a subitism though I will purchase one at some point. Are the little ceramic electric incense heaters hot enough for proper effect?

that would likely be perfect because the cultivated kinam is mainly an oil-based aroma that does best at lower temperatures. I use the term "subitism" very loosely - there are now so many variations that basically I use it to mean any variable temperature electric heater that can get good and hot

If it seems like it's not quite hot enough you can try increasing the surface area of the material you put on there - thinner slices or finer splinters.

for me a sign that my heater is not hot enough is when the notes are entirely simple and clean and sugary. At the sweet spot there is a kind of roasted ambery resinous and phenolic quality that you have to be careful not to dial in too much. When it's overheated a pronounced roasted almost burnt coffee type aroma appears and takes over pretty quickly and then it transitions to a kind of burning wood type smell.

Compared to really resin loaded old or wild wood this has a much narrower temperature range at which it produces a good aroma. At the lower temperatures a single piece can scent a room for days...

thanks, you're a wealth of knowledge and articulate, a great combo. I've read through most of the sandalwood thread. You and many other members here are generous in sharing what you know.

burning Aquilaria sinensis "Chong Lou" from Hainan. Wood came from Wardlab 🥲

Nice full core sinensis aroma. Quite reminiscent of kinam. Soft opening, clean profile free of any salivary notes. Emphasizing mid register bitter sweet aromas as opposed to lighter floral or ethereal notes. Going really well with the swipe of Super Hoi An I applied earlier
