Just got my subitism burner from Miki Lee and I got 30 grams of a couple different types of Chinese kinam as well. Decided to give it a try with some black kinam, and my place smells legitimately amazing. Slightly vanillic, slightly minty, very mildly spicy (think spices in a saffron dessert), resinous but not at all heavy or dark. I set it up as far away from any smoke detectors as possible for the first attempt to prevent any issues 😭

Also, even at lower temperatures before the oils are visibly heated on the surface of the chip, there was still a slight stream of smoke coming off the chip and the smell was very prominent and enjoyable. I lowered the temperature again after the chip started bubbling as it seems like I was getting a better experience at a slightly lower temp. Will take some experience to get the optimal settings, and even then they probably differ based on the wood being burned.

CK is a low temp wood for sure!

I burned two Hindi woods from oudique on charcoal this evening. Both were very pleasant. A fresh grassy opening with hints of cocoa earth and resin. They both had a certain old smell to them. The scent had me feeling very nostalgic. Not for any moment in particular but it was definitely stirring up memories.

I think oud is so complex that it has scents we’ve smelled before hidden inside. But since it’s so complex it’s always hard to pin down what exactly is familiar and from where. This is when I get contemplative and what I think makes oud meditative.

Kangiiten Brunei K

Most pieces deliver a very fragrant burn.
A great release from Kangiiten. I agree, some pieces are better than others, but overall the first batch is lovely. I find that some of the best pieces exhibit a brief ‘kinamic’ nuance in the very top note, but they all mostly finish with that unmistakable Bruneian / West Malaysian honeyed musk note.

Are you still regularly heating mesOUDs Pursat?….

There’s definitely a meditative / medicinal aspect to heating Oud. The Prophet Muhammad said burning Hindi Oud was the cure for 7 illnesses. Pleurisy was the only one mentioned, you can feel a shift within one’s own body & mind after a good session of quality Hindi wood.

Yes I am, at least twice a week.

I see that's the mini version? Can I ask how much that was?

[Ouddict.com] Burn of the Day

A nice chunk of Pursat from mesOUD. I’ve had small piece going all day on the sub, it just keeps on giving.
Top notes are vaporous, high pitched, ‘kinamic’. A classical ripe Cambodi fruit note emerges in the mid, alongside a peachy-rosy floral tonality.
The base note is pure Crassna resin, a dark purple incensey core, caramel sweetness, cherry liqueur, aniseed, soft leather.
Every burn is a true pleasure.

A stressful Monday at work. I have zero idea why some people insist on making the day harder than it needs to be with their poor attitude?

As soon as I got home, I retreated to the study & turned on the sub. I don’t drink or smoke, so an Oud session is the most effective way of relaxing my mind quickly.

Kangiiten - Black Shin Kyara. My favourite of the 4 colours, it has a resinous sweetness that appeals to my appetite for sweet Agarwood scent profiles. A brief sparkling, sheer, minty top note that quickly transitions into a warm spicy cinnamon, aniseed mid. In the base, a beautiful vanilla-benzoin-coumarin emerges with woody incense & soft suede.

An excellent example of quality CK.

congrats! yeah she's very generous with the samples. enjoy!

Surprisingly impressed today. We bought another one of the electric censers from Mermade Magikal and it came with a sample of their (I believe) in-house-made Kyphi. It has this almost anise, black licorice undertone to it that I love. Specifically, my wife and I both thought it was reminiscent of the black marker in the set of those scented markers we’d use as kids. I assumed it’d be something I’d throw on there and not really appreciate, but it was surprisingly nice and appealed to both of us. I’ve made it a habit of going slow and I only warmed it up a little and for a short period, so I’m not sure what all it’s gonna give us, but the beginning chapters have been enjoyable!
