Cultivated Burmese chip (sample shared from @crigg). OMG! These are incredible! I've calmed myself down from the mega Merauke chip I was heating the other day and have now gone with a much more restrained and respectable small chip of some Burmese wood from the same Etsy seller. Never have I had a chip literally burst with scent! I did a pre-heat with them yesterday at about 120 at which they sat at very quietly. This morning however bumping them up to about 160 and immediately I've hit the sweet spot and the vapour is pouring out of them. Very sweet and candy like. I have to get a larger amount of this stuff. Highly recommend all the wood I have tried thus far from this seller. Thankyou so much for sharing Claire. What a way to start the day!

Bourhan Oud - Hindi Bebe Salla Suyufi Royal Grade

Lost of my sense of smell and taste yesterday and was sick. Thought I had covid. I’m up way too early. But senses back!

This is a deep, rich, smoky, oily burn of chips here. Better quality than what I’m used to. First time trying chips from Bourhan Oud. Beautiful.

Sinking Brunei Chip - Dr. Incense

Been sitting on a nice piece of Sinking Brunei wood for a while and decided today was the day to cut off some slivers. Always hurts a little to cut a nice piece of wood like this, but what’s the point of having it if you’re not gonna enjoy it? Smooth cream, fresh misty blueness, cooling mint notes. The mint is so delicate it doesn’t feel right to call it mentholy, just light refreshing soft mint.

Enjoying mucho the Hoi An, I put in coffee grinder and just thru it on Arabian BBQ coils and it was sublime. Woody, not sweet, with just the right mint tempering. It's clean... Had to get more.

Dreams of Malinau - Kangiiten. I know this is an incense but I'm not treating it as such. Combusted as a stick is a total waste. Some woods just really shouldn't be burnt as the nuance is too fine and the burnt wood overall note is overbearing. Grinding it up into a granular form and then heating a small pile on the sub turns these sticks into something else entirely. I mean, the profile of this Malinau is simply stunning. Sweet, woody, vanillic. A little of that dusty library vibe. Fills the room effortlessly and yet not a whisp of smoke to be seen. @crigg I must share some of this with you at some point.

Been having this same thought lately. I really enjoy most incense more broken up and heated than burned.

YES! Heated, not burned, unless you[re in love with that charred effect. Warmed allows the more volatile odorants release over time, to fill the space around the cup. This is how kyara should be experienced, although the 2-3 chips I have, like slivers really, fill the whole room.

What is your favorite Shoyeido Everyday incense? Mine's definitely Five Hills, more so than White Cloud. It has a dry, agar perfume that I haven't found since discovering this one years ago. And it's less expensive than White Clouds, right?!

Sokkat AlTeeb - Kalimantan & Amber 6g bars/ Maroke Sinking Bars

Kalimantan:
So I got sinking Maroke bars and these Kalimantan bars. Thought I would go for this one first. These bars are really nice. I’m getting this unique oceanic, earthy, salty scent which I think comes from the amber. The Kalimantan I’m smelling off of this bar is different than the chips. It’s a more concentrated amount to fit in 6g compressed. I’m not sure I like this too much. Not enough character. Burns out quickly.

Maroke:
This one smells as expected. Coffee, lactic acid, milky, earthy notes…really nice. Smells like Maroke should.

What is your favorite Shoyeido Everyday incense? Mine's definitely Five Hills, more so than White Cloud. It has a dry, agar perfume that I haven't found since discovering this one years ago. And it's less expensive than White Clouds, right?!

Can't say I've tried that one. My wife loves White Cloud. I'm not a huge fan of it. Wa No Kaori sell a box of 165 sticks for just under $30 AUD. Very affordable.

They all are. I believe that White Clouds is their most expensive but IMO not the best. I think I’ll burn another stick of Five Hills now.
