Dank random chips from Malaysia. Sent to me by the owner of essence of the ages. These chips kicked off more oud scent than they had any right to. A long low to mid heat session that was complete in itself. Then turned up the subitism and all this resin bubbled out and just wafted continuous clouds of sweet bitter oud smoke until I decided to turn the burner off. The smell is at first very sweet and “fuzzy”, then deep resinous bitter and sweet.

Heated some AH Tawi Sultan

It’s a mixed lot of very good, good, and fair,
but not in the same league as the first batch, and Habz’s sinking Filipino, and LMK’s Filipino.

But in all fairness, I haven’t come across any Philippine chips like those first ones offered.

Also, I never tried Taha’s, Ensar’s, and Azman Oudh’s.
Also, M. Arif’s wasn’t great either.

i did try Ensar Pinoy chips, now here many shops and instagram auctions selling filipino chips mostly overpriced, i remember going to market looking for good chips for my cousin i had like last piece of habz filipino with me and i compare it to two shops had filipino at that time one selling it for 600$ per tola and other had two types 150$ and 330$ and habz chip was way superior lol
now i found some dude selling some for 50$ and 100$, ones cost 100$ have some really nice chips and big ones but have to hand pick them 🙂

Long exposure shot of burning incense stick. Not taken by me😀

That incense smoke photo is beautiful.

Trying to understand what I’m looking at here. Is that metal cup with the wood powder and chips being heated across its bottom surface? Electric burner of some kind? I’m also curious about the scale - that looks like a lot of material to burn in one go!

Well I've had an interesting year in incense, having gone a bit crazy at the start of 2019 and bought a whole load of Indian, Japanese and Tibetan variants. I've somehow managed to burn my whole lot, leaving some rubbish Nippon Kodo ones that I have no interest in using, and a couple of oud sticks from Imperial Oud, Agar Aura and Rising Phoenix.

I'd burned these sticks grouped together by region, so I used all my Indian sticks up over a few month's time for example, then moved onto Tibet.
My favourite has easily been the Japanese style but I am fond of a good Nag Champa, of which I'll seek out more. The Tibet ones are interesting but I didn't find much variety from many of monasteries that I tried (I had 3 sampler boxes with 4x7 different companies' sticks) - my favourite were the 'Holy Land', but I understand these are not as good as they once were.

In 2020 I will not be burning so much incense, instead focusing on using up a lot of wood that I've accumulated. I have several boxes with the oud organised by weight - I have a box of <2g baggies, for example. I've gone through these and have picked out 8 or so bags with tiny bits remaining so I'll burn these soon to start to reduce how much wood I have. I think I need to sell some off and will start to coal burn too

Yes, it is an old electric burner purchased from Bahrain years ago.

I love it because of its capacity. Now I have purchased two new heaters of the same kind. And my three subitism will be ready in 25 to 40 dollars.

Thanks for the explanation!

My first raw sandalwood burning experience.

it has a very thick brown, red-ish color when cut it into half. it doesn't sink into the water.
it's very dense and hard as a rock. it was very hard to chip them into small granules.
now I understand a little bit how hard it is to make a Kukawari. hats off to @RisingPhoenix and Japanese incense houses!
it gives off a cool, airy, woody smell at the room temperature.

On 100 celcius, it gives off more woody, terpene-ish smell.
On 140 celcius, woody note starts to get stronger and gives off a little bit of softness
On 170 celcius, woody note became very distinctive, strong
On 200 celcius, woody note starts to tone down a bit. become much more mellow and softer. I start to get a milky, creamy note. very faint smoke can be observed
On 230 celcius, it starts to give off a baked smell and a little bit of sweetness that reminds me of freshly cooked caramel. smoke becomes thicker
On 260 celcius, it starts to give off a burnt smell that I don't want. I didn't go more than 260 after this point.

I enjoyed the smell mostly between 200 celcius to 230 celcius where I can smell creaminess, softness, sweetness from the granules.

it doesn't have the depth that ouds have but it gives a very relaxing and pleasant olfactory experience. the scent of Zen it is!
thank you, brother Zak from @AgarwoodAssam for selling this good quality sandalwood at such a low price!

Cutting those down are a beast, aren’t they!? Haha

Nice work you did there!

Cultivated Yellow kinam shavings
from Hainan
This is such a treat to experience and the shavings really heat well and last a long time on the heater . Slowly raising the temp from supper low temp up to crazy hot at the end.
Totally different then cultivated green kinam and just as beautiful.
It’s not natural wild kinam and I’m not saying it even compares. I am saying in my opinion it smells amazing and not at all like other non kinam woods.. A treat
