EO Pinoy Privee

First impression

Close to the quality of Habzoud sinking Filipino
but with minor differences.

I need more sessions to compare properly.

All-in-all......I like it so far.

Unfortunately unless it's 40% better, then the price is just inflated unnecessarily. Habz has hands down been the best aroma I've smelled so far.

I have 10grams of sinking fili coming from azman. Along with some underground fili - looks kinda like merauke (weathered, tan in color but still steaks of resin and under surface appears pretty chock full of oil and resin) and a couple grams of Laos.

Will report back. Azman says his main focus is on fili now. His Instagram is straight oud porn. Today he posted a 200 gram lot, asking 20 a gram. But they look like mini habz logs kinda. I didn't bite

Tell me more

It's really nice wood and so clean aroma
A second, and third session of Pinoy Privee
directly compared to Habzoud sinking Filipino.

In my opinion....
the quality level is the same.
Sinking Filipino smells darker, mysterious, and complex.
Pinoy Privee smells fresher, slightly citrusy, and more perfumey.
Both take high heat well, last very long, and have excellent fumigation.
It’s like the species are very similar, with Pinoy Privee being a much much younger tree. Totally speculation only!!!!!!!!!!

As far as cost, it is more my opinion that Habz’s wood was way underpriced. Try buying that level of quality from a Japanese house, or through Dr. Incense, and you’ll pay more than $30 a gram.
BUT! and I say BUT! The quality of aroma has to be there.....
I have smelled several Filipino woods that are not very good.

Anyhow....after that session, and having just done 3 swipes of Satori Fusho
I was totally agarwoodified!!!!!
Zoning and blissing and nearly high:thumbsup::thumbsup::thumbsup:

Burning a variety of Japanese incenses today. One thing I am struck by is the prominent role of costus root in all of these. It has a very specific quality… It’s hard to put into words, somewhat earthy somewhat mineral somewhat musty. Gives it a kind of “hard edge” as I see it. The edge exists to varying degrees in these sticks. This edge contrasts with the sweetness of woods and resins - I find the effect very interesting.

Tonight after the kids are put to bed I will be breaking out the kinam and sinking Malinau
Brunei , Green wild,Green cultivated Yellow cultivated
Malinau sinking chips!!!!
I have never seen resin melt out of chips like this, it is the chip of the year for me!
Happy new year ouddict’s

Hands down my favorite wood purchase of the year is your sinking Malinau - it's insane. I'll post a video but it's the kind of wood that the resin is so choc full that it leaks out of the wood on low heat. Except this resin is different than most wood I've had - when it melts it does so from very light heat and can still withstand high temp but I've kept a .2 piece on my subitism at 10 and it's been going for a collective 6 hours now with more to go. I never turn it up because I haven't needed to. Eventually I'll increase when it stops being fragrant at 10 but that hasn't happened yet! The wood also has sections that look like they are wet with resin. Almost like a filling! The scent is epic. Vanillic and oudy! So clean and creamy smelling. Like never ending top notes.

As a side note - I was lucky enough to try some of Jay's malinau oil made from this batch of wood (I imagine the non sinking parts but ask Jay) - and it easily rivals b3k and fahad - both oils that are some of my favorites!

Looking forward to Jay's store launch. Hopefully coming soon 🙂

Happy New Year everyone!

Dab of “sweet trat” on shoyeido’s Gozan stick. A great sweet clean oud scent.

Baieido Sweet Vietnamese chips old stock

Honey, flowers, resin, and a perfume aspect.
Gives me a loud tinnitus plus brain warping😕

Also, heating a resin packed chip from JDHawk
I believe it is North Kalimantan
Green fruits and oudiness,
and at higher heat, tobacco?

And lastly,
Some Hindi chips from Zak
not the Oud Heals,
it’s rather nice:thumbsup:

Habzoud Sinking Filipino

This batch is one of the best, but within it,
there are a few pieces that are out of this world.
Kyara level potency.
I’m heating one of those said chips right now:Thumbsup:

I made a BIG mistake not keeping any for myself bar the baby king pieces which are nice to look at and sniff from time to time!

Played “kumiko” with a baieido rikokku set today with some friends. Three adults, two teenagers total.

We cut flat, thin, rice grain sized pieces of all but the kyara. These were cut into thinner splinters.

First all woods were passed around with their identities known, everyone takes notes. Then the order was scrambled and the same 6 woods passed around unidentified - no one knew the new order.

Participants then tried to guess which wood was which.

I’ve had this set since 2007/2008 and this is the first time I played kumiko. It is a great way to enjoy agarwood!

The manaban wood in that rikkoku set is just outstanding. I really feel this is my favorite oud profile along with kyara. Manaban has a lot in common with kyara - it’s like kyara’s heart notes paired with a different top note set. I wish all my wood was manaban.

the sasora is also wonderful - very much a Borneo / malinau type of wood of high quality. Rakoku and sumotara are harder to pin down.

This scent recognition game is quite fun and very relaxing at the same time. At the end we combined all the spent wood and let it burn together. Really nice.

the kyara was very striking. In addition to the classic sweet Aquilaria sinensis / Vietnamese oud vibe, there was a complex rich floral dimension with very vibrant notes of daphne and rose. The strength and purity of these floral notes was striking. I have never smelled these particular notes in any agarwood oil I have smelled. I also have only smelled these notes in baieido green kyara raw wood (the only high quality kyara I own). Even top kyara sticks like translucent path do not really show this note as far as a I can tell perhaps it only shows when it is vaporized and not combusted.

the performance of the kyara is outrageous as well. Little insect-leg splinters fill a high ceilinged living room with syrupy sweet Vietnamese agarwood aroma. They continue to produce scent on the subitism for over an hour. It seems like a violation of conservation of matter!

If I was “smelling correctly” and not imagining that smell or smelling a contaminant, I think maybe I got a glimpse at what makes kyara distinct from other kinam and Aquilaria sinensis in general. Maybe just wishful thinking. I feel many oud oils I have said were “kyara like” I should instead say they are manaban-like.

Pinoy Privee

Went through several pieces in the pack...
...sort of a quality control session.

Certain pieces were not good at all
and they littered the pack at around 5%
another 10% of the pieces were okay
these are rough estimates!
The rest were excellent.

I found out that I don’t like the aesthetics of small chips. Nothing beats medium to large chunks, you can keep chiseling slivers off of a favorite chunk that you know serves you well. If PP were larger pieces, I would consider getting more, after all, I feel that good Filipino wood is a class unto itself (not technically)
