I don’t smell any muskiness,
only agarwood and a hint of kinam.
Nice quality to price ratio.

The sticks themselves have a very strong clove smell with other spices. But on burning, everything seems to be mixed in and I don't get as much musk as one of his previous sticks. Agarwood is very subtle.Doc’s Smiling Plum Musk edition.
This one is rather nice. Call me basic or whatever but Shoyeido’s Plum blossoms has always been one of my all-time favorite sticks. I’ve been sampling a lot of the other higher end houses and I’d always come back Shoyeido’s stick whenever I wanted that comforting sweetness. Smiling Plum might take that space for me.
You can smell the musk beautifully. It’s uplifting and provides clarity to the licorice, spices, Agarwood and sandalwood. The Agarwood here smells resinous and green with soft purple flinty notes. It’s really nice while a touch of musky powder and spices brings home the feeling of comfort and warmth. Very nice.
Lower quality agarwood, including cultivated kinam, can leave this impression. Especially if you're used to artisan sticks from the likes of Ken, Le, etc only. If you take a short break and really try to focus on the notes of these lower quality agarwood sticks, you WILL pick up some notes and once you do you'll appreciate the artisan sticks more as well."Kinam Incense" stick from Hainan ... delivered as a gift item along with my bulk purchase from Yuzhi.
At room temperature, I could smell the Hainan character. The burn (ignited with a torch lighter) immediately reminded me of a match stick. I let it burn 70% down to allow for the smell to improve. After only smelling burnt wood, i extinguished it and tuned on my vents to clear the air.
May I ask how the kinam incense reminded you of a matchstick?"Kinam Incense" stick from Hainan ... delivered as a gift item along with my bulk purchase from Yuzhi.

Pressed incense goes against the grain of a proper burn, I think that a stick with less density is preferred, to allow the wicking of the molten resin away from the smoldering tip.
I don't think there's real kyara in Minorien and if there is, very minimal. @Oudamberlove can clarify.Minorien Kyara Chokoh 5 this morning. A refined Agarwood scent. Floral perfumey, smooth, almost purple tones, slightly spicy/sour, thickly resinous.
Beautiful stuff, but it lacks some qualities I’ve come to associate with Kyara, having smelled rice grains on a subitism a few times. Specifically, the uplifting, almost piercing sweet mint/camphor qualities, the very antique bitter woody qualities, and the deeply incensy qualities.
Then again there are many factors involved: 1) Every piece of wood is different; 2) Kyara in stick form isn’t a rice grain on a subitism; 3) I’m a white boi that didn’t grow up smelling Agarwood incense all the time.
I would love to hear some thoughts from other folks on this one!
Come to think of it, I’ve heard other folks mention that before. Given my experience, that sounds probably accurate. Thank you!I don't think there's real kyara in Minorien and if there is, very minimal. @Oudamberlove can clarify.
