Kangiiten's Dreams of Merauke with some coffee. It took about mid-stick for it to settle down/me to settle into it. I love the soil, earthy notes, although I have to admit that I put some of their black meat mysore on the ceramic heater in the morning and was completely blown away by the medicinal butter. It just might be my favorite purchase from Kangiiten, with their daily green kynam a close second.
So many people were raving about Dreams of Merauke that I bought a box. And now that it's here I have a lower respiratory tract infection. Wah wah. Soon.

Kyara no 1 from Hina/Kyarashrine

Obv doesn’t contain any actual kyara and only a small % of wild agarwood, yet aims to capture the profile of kyara.

Does it?

Obviously not even remotely 😂

reminds me of the high end kyara sticks i tried from Nippon kodo which were a blends that seemed a bit perfumed, not wood centric like kyara enju, kyara en no sho, and others.

More like floral baby powder with a sandalwood spiced based than anything remotely resembling kyara.

My conclusion after burning pure green kyara sticks is that burning kyara in incense really is not the way to go and hardly shows the actual profile of kyara.

Even the kyara sticks from Japanese houses tend to have other things in the mix since pure kyara burned really doesn’t smell that great.

After burning an inch or so, I may really dislike this stick. Whatever chemicals or oil they use in it, i have smelled in multiple other sticks now and it’s so aggressively strong and off putting.

Pure wood doesn’t penetrate like this nor linger or stain the tray with a perfume smell.

Which is really odd considering Hina specifically said it wasn’t perfumed and the listing claims it pure woods only.

This is not the first time I was openly misled by Hina and now I have to conclude she really has no idea what she’s talking about. Or simply has too many products to keep track of to be able to speak intelligently about.

I really do not understand how people can not pick up on this chemical smell, or say it's "all natural, just woods" with a straight face. Ive smelled it 3 different sticks now in the last few months and Im guessing that it's becoming much more commonly used in the incense industry.

My guess is that it is some sort of fake chemical agarwood isolate.

100% I know the smell you're talking about. It's not good that's for sure.

KYARA ZEN ~ Laos Vietnam Soil coil ~ 🔥 worthy of deities as advertised

It has that nose hair tickle like a Brunei, but keeps coming because it's a stick. Quiet but expensive ancient agarwood Woweee deity. 🔥 GODHEAD

The large Rosewood box arrived to fanfare as well, handcrafted, and carefully packed inside a silk red box. As a collector of boxes, it's almost a puzzle box, without modern hardware, which is usually tacky and disappointing. The wood and grain are dark and sublime.

The EID incense was not for me, but I don't ever really care for musky blends, and should know myself better.

Can't wait for this!!
They're very nice. A subtle and quiet listen. Make yourself a nice cup of coffee and light one up. Place it off to the side of you. This isn't one where you want the smoke coming at you. Hints and whispers. Am also very excited to try the Laos coils. They've arrived but I'm out of the country so will have to wait a little longer. Damn that box sounds sexy man.

Kyarashrine included a pressed green kyara stick with a recent order - said it is 100% pressed cultivated kinam (no other additives) which is exactly what it smells and burns like. CK is best gently heated, but these sticks do fill the air with a nice basic clean CK aroma. As somebody else remarked, the aroma of these sticks is very pleasant unheated, it's tempting just to sniff them.

This is not the same stick as what is referred to in the previous posts which sounds like it is a blended / perfumed incense.

yeah im referring to her "kyara no 1" stick which is perfumed garbage that she insists is "only pure agarwood and herbs"

Hina will sell you a piece of feces in the kindest, most polite, emoji rich way possible. However, if you remark that the item she sold you is a piece of feces, then she will say it is just subjective and she actually has a highly refined nose and maybe you just don't like what she likes, and she can't help you. She will tell you cultivated material smells like wild- which is isn't true. She will tell you cultivated material is wild, or "basically wild, just young" - which is not true.

Im not sure if she is genuinely uninformed or politely malicious, or both.

She previously sold me a jar of white CK powder that literally smelled like burnt plastic and hot glue, I dont mean that it reminded me of that or that it wasn't a good aroma, I mean as soon as you open the jar - BOOM - burnt plastic/glue smell. Literally that aroma, where it seemed like something clearly went wrong at some point in the process.

I brought it up to her and she politely shot me down as saying "it's so subjective and maybe I just don't like CK, she loves the aroma, etc"

But yeah, sorry to hijack your thread, Im sure her pressed CK sticks are fine, given that it's such a common place, cheap, and readily available resource, should be quite difficult to mess it up.

Not hijacking - I think we're just discussing the different products here, it seems like the material this place is meant for! I am actually greatly appreciative of you sharing your experience because it's important to know where the reliable (and humble) noses are when it comes to sources.

100% I know the smell you're talking about. It's not good that's for sure.

She kept doubling down on the lie:
"As shared earlier, the incense is handcrafted using only natural ingredients — traditional herbs, spices, and a small percentage of wild agarwood — without any synthetic chemicals or perfumes. This has always been a core value in my shop. Scent is an incredibly personal and subjective experience."

Anyone with a brain and a nose can tell this is perfumed chemical non sense, like other Nippon Kodo sticks.
It boggles my mind how someone can smell that and then claim "handcrafted using only natural ingredients — traditional herbs, spices, and a small percentage of wild agarwood — without any synthetic chemicals or perfumes."

So I just said: You can attempt to deny reality, hide behind empty politeness and manners but it doesn’t change what is actually true😂😂😂

is it just the Kyara sticks from KyaraShine that are not good or is it their incense sticks in general ? I'm kind of not wanting to get anything from there after hearing about the kyara sticks

if you're a newb and don't know much about this stuff, then in general, you'll probably like what she has.

if you just want basic affordable cultivated kynam sticks, then you'll probably be satisfied with her offerings.

beyond that, personally, I would not go hear her store anymore, especially after now multiple of her selling me crap and then hiding behind subjectivity.

sure of course, there is a high degree of personal preference and subjectivity with all of this stuff, but something being wild v cultivated, natural v chemically perfumed, melted plastic/hot glue v agarwood aroma - is absolutely not subjective.

so if someone claims those basic things are "subjective" then I have to assume they are egregiously mis or uninformed, or genuinely dishonest.

I wouldn't be interested in the kyara but was wondering about the other agarwood stuff from Kyarashine and is it good and not smell like artificial stuff ?

I sampled 2 oils recently - a vintage sandalwood, and a white kyara (ck) distilled oil. The sandalwood is nice but a bit odd and smelled almost like an extract more than distilled oil. The white kyara is in line with other white kinam oil i have smelled - very simple pure sweet without any edges or bitter or petrichor. I wasn't crazy about the top notes - a little bland / pungent - but the dry down captures a very pleasant facet of the kinam / sinensis profile.
