Red soil sticks from Nine Regions. Pang from Nine Regions sells cheap Japanese style sticks. Are they ok? Yeah sure. They're great actually for the price and for nice smelling fumigation sticks. Nothing fancy but a small step up from the awful bamboo style sticks dipped in some rancid EO. Some cost a little more. His most expensive one is a Red Soil (his claim) It even has some crazy story about it in the description. They smell not too bad if you don't know any better. Would I recommend Nine Regions sticks? Sure. Would I say they are what they claim to be? No.

The red soil sticks Ive gotten from him have been good, as all the “senkoh” sticks. Never tried the bamboo style. Red soil were definitely not mind blowing but a pretty clear and nice nha trang profile.

It’s been a couple years since I bought from him so maybe it’s a different batch of lesser quality?

Sorry to hear you’re not loving yours.

The bamboo sticks I was referring to are just bamboo sticks in general. It's not that I'm not enjoying them. To be honest I thought they were pretty good until I bought a big jar of his CK powder to make my own incense from. After smelling that I was recognising the same scent in his Red Soil. Besides which they're also about 2.5ml in diameter. If they were real red soil I would believe they should be much thinner. It's just to scarce a material to be making thick sticks out of.

that's odd, something must have changed or gotten mixed up because the red soil sticks I have from him are really thin and do not smell like CK. can you link me to the listing?

those kind of agarwood incenses are flooded all over Temu and Aliexpress and are all pretty much binder with a touch of low grade wood added to it but not bad for the money especially on Temu where they can be $6 or less.

Nine Regions is not in that category even though he sells on AliExpress. His sticks are all handmade not factory made. It's cheap incense but not so cheap you wouldn't go near it.

whatever it is it isn't pure red soil stuff and if there is any red soil agarwood in it than it is just barely a pinch and it's probably a binder laden incense with little agarwood in it and what agarwood it has is cheap cultivated type stuff. To me the wood tubes are worth about as much as the incense in them. Those wood tubes are very nice and have wondered what kind of wood they are ? It seems to be some kind of hardwood and they are nice and well made

That's the point I was making. To me though they smell like a blend of his CK powder and something else. Not quite as sweet as his pure CK sticks. I agree though the tubes are very nice. I've got a bunch of them. Definitely a hardwood.

Kangiiten - Lotus Calming (Imperial T C M). I had no expectations of this incense. I was keen to start trying some of KZ's other composition's though outside of various agarwoods and sandalwoods so this branch off into the TCM range is certainly interesting. I've only tried the one stick from this series so my impressions are very young but I can say initially, I'm not into it. In the description this new line are meant to be blends of actual TCM herbal blends for consumption so the process of turning them into something combustible was always going to be a challenge. Also, I guess it's all about how you approach them being a medicine. Too me so far they just smell like burning herbs. Not pleasant at all. Maybe the others are different? Unburnt, they actually smell really good. I might try heating one on my sub to see how that performs.

I've been waiting to see impressions on those. Your impression is basically what I assumed they'd be like.

The thing I find weird about the whole series is if these are recipes from that doctors grandpa, which were presumably passed down through generations, why had no one else used these recipes to make incense.

I guess there's nothing wrong with this doctor giving his seal of approval on a new medicinal incense, it just seems like if these recipes were meant to be burned someone would have done it before KZ.

Dunno? I guess there is a first time for everything yeah? I'm not really into TCM, meaning there is plenty I don't understand about how herbal blends react to the body and where they're meant to be directed. Potentially if you were a practioner you might burn these when giving consults and treatments. I think they're probably more suited to this.

Have you tried burning that eucalyptus gum on its own? That's an interesting sounding material. If it's mostly gum then it could be a good binding agent, and of course if it's got resin and oil in it it could be a beautiful fragrance I imagine.
