A day late for this post. We're on day 4 of insane downpouring and flooding rain after Ex Tropical Cyclone Alfred became a tropical low. Not much else to do but appreciate incense and drink tea. Kangiiten - Dreams of Merauke, and a steaming hot mug of sweet chai masala. Yum, yum.
it's bleeding damp!

burning some of my old Baieido Kun Sho Premium and it is much dryer than when new. Very resin and dry agarwood forward and nearly no herbs or spice and camphor. I would never guess this is even a Baieido Premium selection incense. Still comes off very Baieido but gentler and no sharp spice or big blast of camphor. It's much more elegant and classy now

The best way to ease anxiety & pass the time!
It looks like Lismore finally copped a break this time, thank God.

Sandalwood - Nippon Kodo

For a relatively cheap stick it smells magnificent. A powdery, dusty, creamy, floral, slightly spicy ‘Sandalwood’ aroma. I’m not sure how natural this stick is, but it’s a very pleasant way to fragrance the house.

I know I raved about these sticks when I got them, but man, I've seldom burned any other sticks since I've purchased these, my current box is like half way empty, that's the extent I've been using them! Also super thrilled to hear you guys are doing better, and that Alfred has been demoted!

Coincidently @Mousse de Chene you asked a while back about Merauke sticks, were you looking for Merauke profile specifically or something else from Papua? Because if you're looking for sticks which emulate medium grade Merauke, I don't think there's better sticks in existence. Granted they're not anything like an Old Asgon profile but according to KZ some fairly aged harvests were used.

Thanks for the heads up brother @Ahmaoud. I was definitely still looking for Merauke sticks & these sounds excellent! I just purchased a box.
Merauke is a region which holds a lot of interest for me, not only do I love the profile of Merauke Oud, the region is extremely close to Australia which I find intriguing!

They're definitely a worthy stick. Smashing my box as well @Ahmaoud lol. I'll be making another purchase myself soon I think. @Mousse de Chene, yes, Lismore is saved. Others did not have the same luck unfortunately. What can you do? These sticks are so wonderfully subtle. Musky soft dark wood.

Nha trang White kyara sticks

Definitely not wild but still a nice aroma, a bit potent.

It’s interesting smelling new sticks, sometimes they hit immediately and sometimes they smell like burnt wood but then click one day. And sometimes they smell like burnt wood and never change because they aren’t that good 😂

Mostly every cultivated kyara stick ive tried just smells like burnt wood and not much else, or just generally one dimensional and unpleasant. Hopefully these will be different.

A little unintentional alchemy tonight. A globe-spanning melange of affordables that are sittin' pretty in my nosters. Earlier I burned a half stick of Balsamic Amber by Bhagwan Incense. It isn't complex but delivers on it's promises in such a very pleasingly cloying way. About an hour later I decided to stick with the sweetwood trend and went with something I haven't used too much, Diamond by Shoyeido. It's ok, a typical whispering Shoyeido daily type- sandal, frankincense, etc. But it got lost in the remnants of the previous incense so I said screw it and fired up a halfie of Bosen's Pythoncidere that was sitting cold and lonely in the ash. This is a Tibetan incense made by a Taiwanese company. Very green and Tibet-y. As I sat here, it all came together. The greens, the browns, the honey-yellows. Lightly spiced and slightly acrid treesmoke domesticating feral sugars. It's like wild-foraged tea; like you can sip it right out of the air. Noice!

The world pisses me off. It often keeps me up at night, thinking about it all. Like last night. And I needed to sleep so I burned back-to-back half sticks of a few choice cuts from my best stuff. Devadaru Taif Rose (Yi-Xin), MajestiCrystal (Dr. Incense), Hyofu (YamadaMatsu). I felt pretty good after. So good that I decided I want to pursue a more impactful type of incense and focus a little more on that part of my collection. I want to start experiencing it everyday and begin to release the hoarding tendency that comes naturally to my frugal soul when I contemplate the cost. Maybe I should better contemplate the cost of not allowing this transitory art to be what it is. It won't be around forever and I'm grateful I found it before it's gone.

Anyway, I made my first purchase from KyaraZen today. Dreams of Chen-La and Dreams of Annam. I'm pretty new to all of this and don't really know what to expect. Any ideas?

Excellent read thankyou. I can't comment on those new ones from KZ but others definitely can. Incense is a really wonderful and non harmful way to help deal with the world as it is.

Blended stick: hainan agarwood, laoshan sandalwood, ambergris, and musk again last night.

I burned this well over 12 hours ago and the fragrance is still lingering in my space.

Also burned more of the Nha trang White kyara sticks and I have to say, I was having a hard time telling if it was wild or cultivated.

Usually with cultivated wood, it is clearly obvious with no doubt. This however, delivers a spicy numbing penetrating effect even in the burned smoke with a kyara back bone underneath. Even the unlit aroma of the stick smells begs the question as well. Either way, the label does not really matter, it's the effect and enjoyment, especially at this reasonable price point.

"soil aged" Green Kyara sticks

it's interesting burning pure Kyara sticks, very different experience to gently heating the wood and very different compared the Japanese style blends. not sure if burning it in incense sticks like this is really the way to go as a lot the nuance and subtle aspects are lost in the burn. but then, there is something else going on too. need more time with it.
