First Incense of the Day post! And because it's my first post, I went with all first-time burns. None of this is high end but I enjoy it anyway. I have some good stuff to review but not until this endless Bleak Midwinter closes out and my nose opens up.
I started the day with "Dragon's Blood" made by Leftover Hippies. These incenses are made from all natural ingredients, no essential oils or fragrance or fillers. Just Dragon's Blood resin and binder. The scent is very woody and balsamic, slightly and sweetly acrid and bitter orange. It reminds me of a mix between pine and cedar. Sharp hot resin. Enjoyable but not my preferred scent. I got this in a sample pack and likely wont purchase again. I've tried a handful of different scents from Leftover Hippies and it's all been excellent.
For lunch I burned 2 incense:
1. "Space Cakes" made by Hexennacht. Dipped charcoal stick. The maker describes the notes as: chocolate Brownies, ganache frosting, cannabis. I loved this one. It smells exactly as described. The chocolate and ganache are creamy and identifiable, but smells so much better on the cold stick. The hot stick fills the space with baked brownies and creamy frosting, the cannabis is there but not overwhelming (I could be wrong, nose-blind to kush). Really fun incense!
2) "Kahraman" by Ansaam Incense. Cones of indeterminate materials. The maker describes the notes as: Agarwood and Dray Amber, White Musk, Oud and Rose, Saffron. I think I found out about this maker on the blog Incense in the Wind >Incense Around the World. It also received high praise from the blogger. This incense is Egyptian in origin, and since I don't have any Egyptian incense and it was available on Amazon, I jumped in. These cones are HUGE! Fully as big as my thumb. Very smoky and refused to be extinguished. Brothers and Sisters, this is a beautiful incense! No off-notes. No hint of synthetics, though it likely does use at least some. The first note I immediately got was the oud. Not the grape-y/plummy "OUDH" I typically encounter in low-end stuff. This hit like actual stinky sticky oud, although it's clearly not. The rose stood out but with humility. The musk was the back-up singer that made it shine. Very Arabic fragrance. The rest of the incense was perfectly balanced. I Immediately bought several more scents to try and highly recommend this one.
Right now, the after work stick is Sacred Atisrauabha by Vedic Vaani and imported to N. America by TheEverestTrader. WOW! An absolutely perfect Indian masala incense. The scent is delicious and I cant stop sniffing the air! Fruit, berries, spices and a subtle wood. Saffron? Soap? Leather? No off notes or cheap Indian weirdness. I will be stocking up on this one ASAP. It doesn't quit or become a generic boquet. It keeps tapping my nose on the shoulder to whisper how lovely it is. Great incense!
My wife is home soon and she prefers a nice but basic sandalwood from Japan. Minorien Fun-In or some Hori-Kawa or Nijo. I bring it up because I've heard the Horin series is best experienced by coil rather than stick. I'm new-ish to incense and wondered what some more of the weathered noses had to say about it? Cheers!
