Kohgen Jinkai stick

lovely stick which smells like
a fruitier version of Kyukyodo Sho Bai Koh
with the agarwood dialed way up.
A rare agarwood was used for this stick,
and I read at KZ that it is soil agarwood.

Kohgen sold out of the sample size pack of this stick, and there is no regular sized box available.
The only available size is a 50 gram box which goes for over $500. Too bad... because I wouldn’t mind getting a 10 gram box.

My last frankincense orders were all from Puresacra.com. Great resin! Shipping takes a while to Oregon though.

so I am wondering: is there a good source in the US that has good hojari quality in the $20-25 per 100g range, comparable to their “Puresacra Frankincense” (their product title / name for basic hojari). Not select, royal green, or anything like that - just average sized hojari tears? Feel free to PM me if you are a vendor with frankincense in this range.

Tennendo Enkuu

New batch versus old..
but before I get into that....
I would like to mention that I keenly observe
the very first whiffs of aroma
when I light a stick,
it combusts the residual resin from the last burn
and gives a good indication of the agarwood within.

With that........ I can detect a different agarwood used in the new batch of Enkuu.....
a sweeter variety, and likely a different region as well.

Push come to shove, I like both batches🙂

Would you say the newer batch has same quality of agarwood as the old one? Or inferior to your nose. I really liked the old one.

The quality based on a grading system (e.g. A, Super, Double Super) is probably the same.
The Species or Region.....
The old batch probably has a more complex, and now rarer wood.
But there are significant differences in the recipes as well, so much that I would consider the new batch as a different stick. In that case, wether you like it or not would be a hit or miss.

Thanks for breaking down. Sounds like too much of a risk getting the newer version.

Baieido Kokoh Byakudan

You would think that this stick exemplifies
the Mysore Sandalwood profile.....
well it doesn’t.

It has a herb/medicine mix almost similar to Jinko Kokoh, which dominates the overall scent.
Only Kyara Kokoh from that series let’s the agarwood note come out more.

KZ Manaban Al Malik

I can’t tell what region it is,
it does remind me of Dr. Incense Tarakan,
but not identical.

Good stuff!

Shunkohdo Ranjatai

It is an honor for an incense to bear the name Ranjatai, and I believe this honor is deserved
with this stick

Finished with Shunkohdo Kyara Seikan
No aromatics to boost the Kyara note.
Simple, wood-centric, and I love that
little bit of bitterness.

Holy land incense 1 & 2 by Tibetan medical college

it's getting better and better every time I burn it. I'm still quite not sure what's going on with this incense.
the original one is muskier, heavier than grade 2.
I prefer to break it into small pieces and put it on the electric burner. I can smell more musk note this way.

it starts with intense animal hair & sweat but it turns into beautiful powdery, soft, warm smell after 30 minutes.

Fu-in Kyara Minorien
Earthy wet aroma
One of my favorites

Kunmeido Asuka again!!

This is a worthy stick.

At first the Reiryo threw me off, but as I came to terms with Reiryo, then I could fully appreciate this stick.
