I want to give a huge shout-out and thanks to Al Hashimi and Ahmad Abassi for SANTAL X !! I have more than enough Sandalwood for this lifetime. A huge collection encompassing sandalwoods from all over the planet, produced using a wide variety of distillations, etc etc. But this ranks among my most esteemed and favorite Sandalwood of all time, dark & deep, & cherry.
It has that quality of special that transcends mysteriously, that makes one shiver, when witnessing the sublime. Even a mediocre sandalwood can be lovely, but this Santal X, I would quantify as ceremonial. It is truly a gift made by anointed hands. I appreciate as well the box stuffed with goodies and treats to try. These are just classy people, with that rare combination of heart and intelligence, art & spirit of generosity. I simply love Santal X and the resin before it. I would hoard it if I could.
ALL to say IF I find myself in a fire, the winds shifting in my direction, my SANTAL X's will be what I reach for to stuff my tiny purse... before being overtaken by smoke inhalation🙂
This was a really good review. Thanks for sharing. 👏

Got the bio-santalol today. Made via fermentation… I need more time to evaluate but it has a definite sandalwood vibe and kind of smells like an oil from some novel region or different species of sandalwood.
There's a prolific reviewer over on Fragrantica who writes these exquisite reviews on fragrances centered around Sandalwood, interlaced with both his childhood experiences and a lifetime of loving the actual oil, as well as its use in perfumery. He mentioned Dreamwood, a trademarked molecule from Firmenich, and said it was synthesized from white sugar. Now I've not been able to verify that, but when I saw your post, that's what my mind went to, but I've located the material you're most likely talking about, and it is different.

you are right, this is for pure nature identical santalol made via metabolic pathways in microorganisms, the other i think is a novel synthetic fragrance that resembles sandalwood

Made by “lateral gene transfer” from Santalum album to E. coli or Saccharomyces or something

A little dab of An Najwa sandalwood qadeem. This is just a very pleasant Sandalwood makes me happy every time I put it on. Nice rich heavy santalol opening, a classic dry super appealing sandalWOOD aroma, various appealing and shifting nutty/creamy notes. Absolutely smooth, not an odd note to be found. I don’t recall the price, but this is worth getting for anybody looking for a decent reference oil.

Mysore 1 (all root) from Al Hind. This is real nice. For a fresh oil I already find this complex. glad I got an extra bottle as i Am really looking forward to how this ages! Will wear this a few more times before I can try and work out the different notes I am getting. I can almost see the tree when I smell it which give a great feeling in that moment.

OleFaktory - Indonesian Shavings 2022 - My (first?) steam distilled sandalwood, preserves the herbal top notes, hinting to my much adored Sri Lankan sandalwood oils. Not quite as buttery, though when sniffed from the cap, there's a sweet dessert like quality to it. Upon application you get a mild herbal touch, alongside something which feels a bit false cedar-y, in front a wonderfully creamy backdrop. A rather tenacious oil, I applied a dot from a glass rod touching the surface of the oil and rubbing it on my arm, and there's no sign it's letting up anytime soon. What's unique is how it maintains the top notes so well into the dry down, which adds a layer of spiced warmth, steering this oil from the meditative, to the cozy. It seems like something you'd wear sitting near the fireplace, with a knitted sweater, munching on spiced baked goods, while sipping a warm beverage. A very memorable profile, and so glad I have quite a bit!

Was going to put the Sumba Vintage Sandalwood oil I have on today that cost me £48.10 for 1ml from the Tea Guru that just smells absolutely gorgeous and you can try and wash your hands with fuckin bleach and the smell will still linger and linger quite a bit, even after a shower with 3-4 good swipes with a thin dipstick it will still have a potent smell, BUT, I went with his cheaper entry level sandalwood that is just named Santalum. album (basic essential oil). The Sumba Vintage is made from 100 year old trees with black and red meat sandalwood, it is extraordinary, I rarely use it due to it being so potent and long lasting, but I enjoy it more that way... it is so complex. But sometimes I choose simplicity as I am also burning some entry level Satya incense "Musk". Hehe. Guilty pleasures...

Also, the basic S. album oil does of course smell different as it is probably a young tree from India. If it is from India and not Sumba like the vintage, then the smell will be different, the Vintage does smell noticeably different 100%.

Night time here, or early morning 20 mins to 3am. I put on Tea Guru's Vintage Sumba Sandalwood from Red and Black meat sandalwood, tree's he used were 100 years and over, I suspect they were really 80-100 years. This stuff is really good and I also have some Tensei incense going from Tennendo, just 2 sticks, smooth creamy, sweet (but not cloying) scent from the Tensei and I have had the complex sandalwood on for a couple hours now and I am onto that main in depth sumba sandalwood character of creamy-UK like biscuit-y sent, woody, buttery woodiness actually, with a sensual wet impression aroma mixed with a slight dry aroma. I love this stuff when I wear it, but I dont do it too often since it is quite expensive.

SULAYM's HM Mysore:
This is a nice Mysore oil, I have never tried Mysore oil before only powder and it smells as it should, very nice. Totally different from the Vintage Sumba Red and Black Meat sandalwood oil I got from Tea Guru. This is more soft, less invasive and more passive on the nose, it stays around for a long time, I put it on at around between 6 or 8pm and it is still at its base note dry down now at 1:05am... the next time I wear it I will study it more indepth, like the opening notes that last about 1-2 mins, then the top notes which last (not talking about this specific oil just generally) around 15-45mins, then the heart notes around 60-120mins then basenotes onto the dry down for hours and hours and hours later. I liked the experience with the first time, was exactly how I expect quality Mysore to smell like @SULAYM and @Faizal_p, good job !!!

This Mysore Sandalwood is just so strong even after 6 or 8 hours. If I can still smell it to a reasonable degree when I get up tomorrow (well later today as its 2:40am) I will report back, because that would be insane, especially with a pure E.O with no carrier. Right now actually, I think I am on the dry down, the creamy, buttery, rich, biscuit-y scent is almost pretty much gone leaving behind a dry (typical of Indian sandalwood this note is always there even at the start), woody smell with the creaminess and butteriness becoming less rich and dying off. Overall I think the scent of this oil in full without washing will last around 8-12 hours then you may only get some really dry woody notes.

In time I will review oils when I use them more, the first ones will be the Sumba Vintage Sandalwood from Tea Guru and some ouds then this HM Mysore when I really get a good knowledge of the scent but I dont wear sandalwood too often so it may take some times, all these reviews will be in the review section!!!

I recall smelling this oil off my skin the next day, and it was simply splendid! I think you'll be in for a treat tomorrow!

Got the HM Mysore Sandalwood on again, from SULAYM. I put quite ... alot ... on 👀👀 lol, more than last time anyway. The opening was slow, but it started getting stronger after seconds and a few light rubs then it screamed a milky, slightly creamy, extremely buttery scent. After a 30 mins I am starting to get absolutely outstanding floral notes, and a "cleanliness" feel to it because of the florals. This is so relaxing, gentle, soft and not dry or as dry anyway as most Indian oils, I think Mysore has more rain so maybe thats why and the trees are sucking that up and it doesnt get as much of a dry scent and that turns over to the oil and the dryness starts kicking in, slightly I would say, a couple hours in but very slowly then its like (from last experience) a woody dryness with the undertone of the main notes at the start and mid. I love this oil ahah. 🤤

Rising Phoenix Perfumery - Iliahi 2020 (Santalum Paniculatum) - Gentle coastal herbs and butter-lite, airier than most sandalwoods, brings the lactonic facets earlier on, never cranking them to full blast. Doesn't feel like it sits in the base note category. A wonderful oil to inhale first thing in the morning, lends a sort of grounding freshness to the day, slowly awakening the senses, not bracing at all, but nor is it light or one dimensional!

To all the sandalwoodicts and sandalwood oil collectors.

So I have been on a sandalwood surge the past week and bought a bunch of rare sandalwoods from all over the place and still going to grab some more from a couple other sources. I didn’t know where to post this question…..

Anyone ever tried this sandalwood? I told him to send me the capsules instead of breaking them and pouring them in the vial.

It looks like it could be a true gem.

I have smelled the old “sandalwood mity” from capsules (I have a small vial of it in fact) - it is fine but so old that it has lost any real character. Not sure about this brand.

Awww, you ruined my excitement. I thought if you let Sandalwood age from the bloody 30s then it would be so aged that it would have MORE character, MORE fragrance and MORE complexities? Is this only true for oud?
