Yeah Spicatum oils are certainly not for everyone. I personally like them as it gives a big sense of nostalgia for me since I’ve grown up around it being from WA myself the sandalwood hub of Australia.Santalum Spicatum Showdown!
Eden Botanicals Australian Organic vs Australian Premium
I've only been in the oil game for about a year and I've noticed in the last few weeks that I'm getting better at identifying notes. I've also noticed I'm able to notice more notes than I could before. So I've been going through all my oils seeing how I interpret them now
I honestly have never liked spicatum oils. And I still don't! They are just overly sweet. Both of these oils have a similar drydown but the neat thing is the top notes that I now recognize in them. The Organic has this dry cinnamon along with a slight maple scent. The Premium has a much more pronounced maple scent which is quite nice.
I don't know how long it takes most people to be able to recognize all the notes in an oil but I'm glad that I'm getting better at it. It is like getting introduced to oils all over again!
I’d like to correct myself that it’s Edan Botanicals New Caledonian sandalwood that is being disconnected not the Royal Hawaiian. My mistake.Yeah Spicatum oils are certainly not for everyone. The Eden Botanicals Spicatum oil surprised me as it smells a lot deeper and sweeter than ones I’ve previously been exposed to. My Mount Romance oil is far more floral and a bit more woody.
And their Plantation Grown oil I can barely smell(perhaps I will use as an ingredient in the skincare products I’m making).
However their Royal Hawaiian is gorgeous to my nose it’s a real shame it’s being discontinued, I’ll have to put some in a bottle and hoard it for the future.
I’d like to try Hermitage Oils offerings but i believe they no longer ship to Australia which is a shame.
Yeah it’s the New Caledonia extra. It does have a nice profile but it only lasts like an hour and has no projection. Trees are probably too young.I’d like to correct myself that it’s Edan Botanicals New Caledonian sandalwood that is being disconnected not the Royal Hawaiian. My mistake.
Is sandalwood pretty popular in Australia? They are producing a lot of wood these days and as the trees age the oil will get better.Yeah Spicatum oils are certainly not for everyone. That should actually say green herbal. I’ve found many Sri Lankan oils are dominated by it. I’ve seen others describe it as a thyme or dill.Green opening? That’s a little hard for me to imagine in the context of sandalwood but I don’t think I’ve ever smelled a decent Sri Lankan oil! Something to look forward to… I’ve only tried a couple
I’m not actually very sure but I do know that it’s used a lot by the indigenous peoples here from what I’m told.Is sandalwood pretty popular in Australia? They are producing a lot of wood these days and as the trees age the oil will get better.
That’s something unique! What is it like?Sandalwood from Sultan Q's collection.
Very hearty, I'm able to smell it now, 3 hours later in the air. It retains it's open though diminished in power. That’s something unique! What is it like?
The top note is basically the copper pot effect.Tabeer Oud - Mysore Santal. This is really classically pure, any wood or vegetation is merely hinted at. Very clean toned but colourful. The beautiful top notes waver which makes it dynamic but the profile stays consistent.
Not sure what the price was as it was a sample, but I may seek this out in the future. It wears very well by itself.
