Easy enough, but it is harder than it sounds to recieve a bottle of oud in the mail and not immediately open and smell it.Yes. That was my thinking. Not sure if it's necessary but it's easy enough to do.

My thinking here was that it would avoid the suggestion of tampering. Are you not going to sniff the questionable order at all, lol, as a ‘reference’?
Also curious to read your thoughts on the Bortnikoffs… my opinions on them changed after trying Areej’s History of Oud collection.
Thanks! Please update us after trying them on skin. They are all kinda light and airy on me but my skin likes more oud in compositions. My thinking here was that it would avoid the suggestion of tampering.
The bortnikoffs are all good. I've only tried the vetiver and the Monarch on skin. But I've tried them all on scent strips. Oud Maximus and Oud Monarch are the standouts. Oud Maximus smelled more animalic, in a good way. Oud monarch has a throaty, chocolatey pull on it that compliments the oud. But again, these are just first impressions. I'm interested to try them all again now that I've actually worn a number of pure oud oils and am understanding it better. Cheers
Yes, I’m curious to read your thoughts on the oil after you’ve tried it. I expected a beautiful full bodied traditional sort of Ajmal-Ish old school thick gooey barny (I like barn) Meghalayan … what I discovered was gorgeous, wild, thick, and extremely resinous. Almost like a liquid incense. It led me to agree with EO that old traditional does not have to mean fermented barn.Great, I'll go read it. The search function on this website is pretty bad so it's sometimes hard to find what I am looking for.
I have been surprised and delighted with all of the oils from the Sultan. I expected Burmi '79 to smell familiar to the indian ouds I have smelled, but I was very surprised that it's nothing like that at all. The only resemblance to modern indian oud was a note in the drydown that is hard to smell among all of the other notes. I am not even sure If I am smelling allagocha, but maybe that's just what happens when a tree is allowed to sit infected for a century.Yes, I’m curious to read your thoughts on the oil after you’ve tried it. Yep, I think it’s just what happens … like you said.I have been surprised and delighted with all of the oils from the Sultan. That is an interesting thought, but the same chord is present in lots of the Sultan's oils, so I think there is something else to it.Yep, I think it’s just what happens … like you said.
Regarding the Meghalayan, it could also be that whatever ‘barn’ was there initially has morphed/transformed/aged into what we smell today. That’s what several experts mentioned to me when my mind was blown by the complete lack of barn from a traditional Hindi oud
Here is your sample packAbsolutely there will be something that u like
Could be but there’s no way to really truly be sure. We’d need a time machine to go both backward and forward… then to compare the same exact material. To quote a famous owl who had a tootsie pop, the world may never know. That is an interesting thought, but the same chord is present in lots of the Sultan's oils, so I think there is something else to it.
If all oud eventually ages into something like what came from the Sultan, then that would be very exciting. Unfortunately I doubt that is the case, and I think that this amazing signature is a thing of the past.
What are the various opinions? I personally have no real way of verifying that these came from the sultan himself, but the smell is amazing. If they didn't come from him, then I want to know who is distributing all of this amazing oud oil. It would be nice to know where it comes from just for the sake of knowing more about it. I am also not sure if I should worry about adulterants.Could be but there’s no way to really truly be sure. As for the Sultan/SQ oils, there are various opinions, even on this very forum, about them and their origins. We all like what we like and it’s all good.
The Meghalaya 77 oil is an excellent example with its many twists, turns and flowing resins but I wouldn’t choose to wear it everyday or even on special occasions because it’s not noticeable enough for me. I don’t get wafts of it throughout the day. Even if an oud is gorgeous, if it doesn’t jump out at me, I’m usually not gonna fall madly in love.
I would search around a bit on the site for the opinions, and take everything with a grain of salt. I don’t want to start a rehash that involves quoting others, but take a look if you are curious. What are the various opinions?
