I’m a vendor and have nothing to do with who is allowed on here or how the site is ran.
I myself am an OUDDICT and buy from everyone on and off this site as much as anyone. Alex the perfumest sent me fake oud and bogus fake sandalwood oil. My experience is well documented here in the site.
Just another 2cents from me

Hopefully the banks will soon decide to pull his license to operate and not allow him to take visa and MasterCard anymore. Until that happens though, I’m afraid he will continue running his scam because there is no way for people to leave feedback like on Etsy or eBay. I’ll send anyone his samples for free if you truly want to see for yourself.

I will not even pay fo shipping for fake stuff. Lol

Wasn’t a genuine Sandalwood oil. Smelled more like a cheap Gulf Attar based around some kind of Amber compound.

Whatever it was - it wasn’t a pure Sandalwood oil.

It was 300 year old sandalwood from Mysore sourced during the rule of Raja Wodeyar II and then distilled with best lab certification. SARCASM INTENDED

Dear JK DeLapp. Good day to you,

I hope you and your business Rising Phoenix both doing great.

I would like to bring your attention and give you few advises from a colleague, and I'm only doing so because you are giving your opinion and feedback publicly about our work and oils.

1- first of all as perfume maker, herbalist, vendor and seller when making an opinion or review about any other company or maker or their products, specially when you are a affiliated with the forum or the site that this review or feedback is being offered/published on, it's always good to get those samples or oils from the company or the manufacture themselves, rather than a person who claim to have possession of those oils long time ago, this way your respectful opinion and review stays profession and accurate and there are not mistakes or inaccuracies in it. If you have contacted us saying who you are and that you like to review one of our oils or products on this forum would be more than happy, to send you the oil, the lab test and the ISO certification as all sandalwood in India can only be distilled/exported with special license and certification which I'm sure you are familiar with.

2- I'm not sure what you have received and not sure what it smells like because you got an open sample from an open bottle from someone who got it long time ago and was already making multiple bashing and hateful statements and accusations on the brand on this same forum that you reviewed the oil on, and honestly can't confirm or deny your statement as you can be very right and correct and it didn't smell like sandalwood at all but rather cheap Gulf Attar based around some kind of Amber compound, the only problem here is, that same oil batch by batch was lab tested by both the seller and independently, exported with ISO certification ISO 9001:2015, certification of natural compliance CA-SA 123, and QM-014178 and certification of good practice and sold to over 150 clients around the world and used as basic ingredient for two major natural beauty and cosmetics companies in USA which both require a lab testing for their own.

3- We may agree or disagree on many things but I think one thing we all agree on is that, sandalwood oil if it's Indian or even Australian smells in a way similar and it does smells like sandalwood even to the amateur or the novice (and in no way I'm saying you are), sandalwood oil from different companies is widely available all over the country, don't you find it strange that a company who has been in business for 300 years, listed on 10 international magazines, reviewed and recommended by many respectful independent reviewers and perfume collectors and influencers in the industry, had multiple international fugues as clients, and sold hundreds of orders to hundreds of people all around the world, gets a cheap Gulf Attar based around some kind of Amber compound, and sell it as pure Mysore sandalwood oil with a hand signed certification from the owner of the house that it is pure and authentic?

4- finally, don't you see it strange as a fellow perfume maker, seller, and vendor that someone buys an oil, say it is trash and fake and they hate it and it cause them allergic reaction and had to throw their shirt because of it! as if it's some kind of toxic material, offered full refund and money back to return it but they don't, and they go on this forum and only this forum who had made multiple false acquisitions about our company, brand and work , post pictures and write posts brag about how bad it is, then send it to you (ship it) even thought they refused to ship it to us the first place to get a refund, and then you review it and go back on that same forum saying that "Smelled like a cheap Gulf Attar based around some kind of Amber compound. I knwo you have started your perfume business in 2011 as you mentioned on your store on Etsy and I'm sure you know that we have been in business much longer than that, so here is an advice from time, experience and knowledge "your name and reputation is the most valuable thing you have so make sure you protect it in all cost and don't get it involved in attacks and accusations or taking side without solid proof or evidence".

5- I would've totally respect your opinion if you got this oils from us directly and reviewed it, it would still be your opinion and not a lab test but I would still took it and respect it, but unfortunately I can't do that now because you didn't follow the rules or basic or fair or unbiased opinion.

regards

This forum was established to allow free and unfettered discussion for scent enthusiasts, customers and vendors and generally keeps a very light touch as far as banning members and controlling the parameters of any discussion. Unfortunately, we occasionally get people like Alex from The Perfumer, making striking and grandiose claims about their products. Now it is not for any single individual to make a judgement on these claims and quite frankly, I have far more important things to do in my life than waste time on whether or not a particular vendor and their products who is not a Resident on this forum is dubious. However from my perspective having sampled one of his products and read the comments of others who I know to have bought and sampled these products (rather than the anonymous reviews of "very important buyers" on the Perfumist website) the relationship between good reviews for his products and the positive and amazing claims of the vendor seem to be inversely proportional.

Normally the forum would occasionally issue a ban if the noise and trouble from a particular individual is too much trouble and causing problems for too many members. However, in this case, because legal threats have been issued, I am now forced to take a very keen interest in these oils. I have never ever asked for samples from any particular vendor's customers before, but in this case this is an:

OPEN CALL FOR ANY CUSTOMERS to provide me with:

1. A small sample of your purchase from The Perfumist
2. Any sales receipt or other proof of sale for the oil or perfume.
3. Any marketing claims for that oil or in general that would also apply to that oil or perfume.

I would be grateful if you can get in touch with me via PM in the first instance, thank you.

A couple points of fact:

You being in international magazines simply means you paid for ad space in magazines. Your target market is folks who simply "don't know better" - casual fragrance folks who see your ad and assume it an organically written piece about your company. This type of customer doesn't have any clue what it's supposed to smell like - to them, it's a luxury and they've spent the money, read your hyperbolic marketing about supplying oils to the sultan of Brunei, bought it and had no clue what it was supposed to smell like anyway, then went on with their life clueless. I assume based on how you market, that makes up generally at least, a good portion of your target demographic customer.

2. You keep mentioning these lab tests but this is the part of the logic that makes zero sense: you could easily send off proper Mysore to be tested, get the lab results and paperwork. Then simply sell some bullshit oil and say oh but look here, I have the lab tests for it. How on earth are we supposed to believe that the oil you are selling is the same oil you got tested. There is literally no way you could prove the lab test correlates with the oil you are actually selling. And given your track record here - an arena you obviously misunderstood for your target demographic - of getting bad reviews from more than just vendors here, bad reviews from regular members too, I think the burden of proof is on you to go above and beyond to prove the lab tests actually match what you are selling.

3. There are tons of vendors who aren't associated with this forum in any capacity whatsoever who get amazing reviews - off the top of my head, agar aura, ensar oud, Agarwood Indonesia, etc. None of these folks have the same dilemma as you with constant bad reviews. So your theory about non ouddict vendors getting bullied here doesn't carry much weight. In fact, the other day a brand new member posted here about your oils being shitty - that was before he even saw or read any of the past threads about your wares. So that's about as fair a shake as your gunna get here - or anywhere for that matter. And look. It would be one thing if you were a new distiller and selling oils that maybe weren't all that great but you were learning and admitted that and just wanted feedback. But I think it's that you actively market yourself as gods gift to aromatics and then sell hot garbage. You could at least humor us and buy some bulk sandalwood oil from EOC or something and sell that as 100 year old Mysore oil - at least you'd be selling real sandalwood lol.

3. Returns - shipping back oils to you is exorbitantly expensive. Vs shipping them amongst members within the same country which doesn't cost much at all. We all send each other oil samples regularly - that way we can give each other our thoughts on things. I could understand your logic in your first point - if say you were selling 3k/3g oud oil - and then yeah, I'd be concerned maybe someone would try to dilute or replace the oil with some lesser oil to resell it and keep the original oil for themselves. That just boils down to trust amongst members and buying 2nd hand from folks with trusted resumes - we have the feedback section of the forum specifically designed to help folks make the best decisions when doing business for the first time with someone new to them. Ok..... But in your situation - this guy sent the oils to JK, someone who is known here to be extremely experienced with sandalwood, someone who other vendors here have trusted to evaluate wood and oil - this guy didn't sell them to JK for profit or to pull one over on you. He wanted an expert opinion on your oil and it cost a fraction of what it would cost to return the oils to you. So this whole "gotcha" act - of why ship them to JK but not back to me, again falls flat - just logically.

4. Why does this constantly happen to you? Why does this never happen to anyone else? We already discussed how non ouddict vendors are respected here - why aren't you?

5. If you have soooooo many rich clients, why are you even selling retail? If you are the oldest house in perfume, why doesn't your name ring out? Why don't you have a distribution network or retailers for your perfume? Why do you continue posting here to argue with people? Obviously the folks here demand a higher quality of wares than what you offer - what is your obsession with defending yourself to this tiny community of enthusiasts if in your heart of hearts you already know your products are best in class? You don't need our stamp of approval man - go do your thing. Feel like you've had a few chances already - there's not gunna be some argument you make or test you post that's gunna have us all go - oh man, we were sooooo wrong about that Alex guy. Let's all have an apology party and recognize his greatness.

I will be honest - I do not think Alex is “all there” so to speak and this is a waste of time. Some kind of behavioral issue or something - best to ignore the guy I think.

to Alex: All you are doing is making yourself look worse and worse and worse every time you post here. You are not looking respectable or earning any credibility, you just draw attention to the fact that you are not rational or trustworthy. Each post you have made has kind of made you look worse.

Honestly Alex if you want to keep it up go ahead it’s kind of slightly entertaining. :Roflmao:

There is this concern. When you’re online, one can’t gauge the mental state of some of those you are interacting with and for some reason, scent and perfumery seems to attract more than it’s fair share of people with mental health issues.

But one of the people who founded this forum, I have a duty to take legal threats seriously and already have received positive offers of samples from customers and we are prepared should this individual try to undermine our work here.

Maybe he thinks there are rich pickings to be had and I’m some sort of rich oligarch. The reality is quite different and I can barely afford to pay for the forum hosting some months so I’ve got nothing to lose anyway and this forum is staying for good. :Roflmao:

Honestly the guy has proven to be 100% full of bullsh@t so far. Safe bet his legal muttering is about as connected to reality as his agarwood and sandalwood. 🙂 I’d wager you can sleep peacefully...

For sure, it will backfire quite spectacularly if I go ahead and GCMS test the oils and publish the results if they aren’t all 100% natural as claimed.

I bought 3ml of the Prachin which is now supposedly sold out. When I opened the box the perfume was so powerful I didn't open the bottle. It was immediate musk with not too much amber and patchouli. He's a capable perfumer maybe even deft but I rarely wear or buy perfume and certainly never spend 300 on a bottle without sampling. I get weary of perfumes after 2 or 3 times. Few perfumes are worth revisiting. Anyway I wrote to the gentleman and said this is not pure OUD but perfume. He insisted it was OUD and would not take back the unsullied Prachin because of Covid. BUT sent me a refund. He said he would also send free of charge samples of some other OUDS but he did not. If anyone would care to buy PRACHIN perfume I make you special deal.

LOLz... PRACHIN perfume..... you cracked me up brother

Woww what a crazy turn of events. i was close to purchasing from "The perfumer" because i wanted a real musk oil.
Alex, the perfumer only makes me love ENSAR OUD & RISING PHOENIX EVEN MORE. These 2 are more then just vendors, they are passionate, honest and are constantly looking for quality.
people these days are trying to make an easy buck by reselling aliexpress items. these guys are making a living by providing quality and service above and beyond.
shout out to JK Delapp, i love the subitism heater.
from Australia.

I am not too long in ouds. I've investigated about this guy and his shop and don't lost money, but time.

Strange enough, he don't sells samples.

Could'nt find documented history about his 300 years old history of family business and who are these people. Story about selling to kings in the gulf and why his company is in texas, doesn't make sense for me.

It is a little strange to me that The Perfumist doesn’t sell samples or discovery sets for their products.

Most reputable vendors in my experience are more than happy to sell you samples.

It’s not exactly damming but it is strange. If I was a conspiratorially minded person I would almost think that they were just trying to get as much money from each sale as possible. I don’t know if that’s true and I won’t make wild accusations but I can see this being a possibility.

As for being an ancient perfume house I very much doubt that. The lack of third party information on this house leads me to believe that statement is apocryphal.
