Sultan Pasha - Thebes Grade 2

Wore this last night. It was far smoother in the heat and didn’t have any any of the sharpness I remembered. Perhaps because of ageing in the bottle. Lovely creamy florals and a warm base.
One of the interesting thing about new ingredients is that the first time we encounter them they scream at us. This happens with both naturals (think of certain ouds that seem insane on first sniff)... and synthetics: say a Prin Lomos perfume that has new compounds(Ma Nishtana was my first run in with lots of Norlimbanol and it was all I could smell the first few times I sampled it).

Many people find perfumes with synthetics screechy because the new compounds they are smelling don’t exist in nature so it’s your first time encountering them(ironically, perfumes that go mainstream like Aventus or Le Male or Old Spice don’t smell as synthetic or crazy to us because the compounds were so popular that they made their way into deodorants and laundry detergents... so they’re everywhere, our nervous systems are used to them... so we perceive them as they’re meant to be smelled, even from our first spray).

I find that sultan always has a bit of a learning curve with his Attars... sometimes for the crazy high dose naturals like Narcissus Absolute or musk mallow or truffle extract and sometimes from the rare synthetic boosters he used especially in the lower priced Attars.

Even Attars that were immediate HATES: resine prescioux, cuir de Russie, Ambre Cuir, Oud douce Amir... eventually I smell them a third of fourth time and they’re all in balance and perfect, even if they’re not to my taste.

I try and remember that whenever I test a new Attar, Oud or perfume now. It helps my enjoyment!

Edit: I almost forgot my real reason for this post. 🤣 I had the same experience with Thebes 2.

Great comment! Very interesting. A good reminder to give samples a few goes before writing them off; I'm sure we've all had quite a few moments when something suddenly comes together and makes sense.

Sultan Pasha - Ensar Rose
First time trying. Wow, it's super potent.
it's an oud + rose combo. Sultan concentrated more on roses for this one. lots of bright, creamy, sweet, uplifting, sensual roses. almost oceanic and minty. I really like the elegant tuberose in the opening. and LOTS of ambergris. very French vibe.

Hindi oud adds more human-skin-ish quality. lovely!

I prefer this over Juriah.

Olefaktory’s 2cents

This is aging quite nicely! The Frank is rounding out and the initial sharpness has smoothed out. The drydown is getting creamier and even a tad bit “ouddy”. I feel like the Kinam is showing it’s face in the drydown especially with this intense bitterness that is present.

Royal Green 2 by Mellifluence .. really enjoy the heart of this attar.. imagine smell of vetiver emitting soft white smoke of Hojari Frankincense along with creamy Sandalwood.. only thing this is a skin scent even with heavy swipes. But still just a beautiful attar .
Also wearing MellifulencePerfumes Citrus Khas.
First time wearing it... my thoughts .

I don't know if this works. Roh khas is pretty good on its own. I'm probably going to get disappointed.

2mins later, hey what's that's. Mint....Nice

5 mins later he I smell something else here. Like a frankincense type note.

20 mins later...I swear there is probably oud in this.
An hour later it's now mostly Roh Khas drydown, which I love.....
what a nice trip that was!
Let's re-swipe.

Hahaha yes, I would say Royal Green had a similar transition.. mint seems like a good note too ! How is the projection on citrus khus ?

Wearing Agar Aura Java today.

I have been enjoying it quite a bit lately. Green foresty vibes off the top are exquisite, and the blueish-green down is something to cherish.
Also, I got a compliment from an arab lady who works at the local hospital. Not bad!

I do not see a lot of people talk about it though. It has been sold out for a long time but fairly meagre reviews on perfume platforms.
I love Java. Also wondering why nobody talks about this.
Unfortunately I only have a sample.

Sultan Pasha - Vetiver Blanc
first time wearing.

It opens up with incredibly freezing air as if I just opened up the refrigerator. Vetiver! without having that basey rooty quality, the vetiver in this blend delivers its uplifting ethereal grassy smell. slightly metallic galbanum follows just behind the vetiver.

while vetiver dominates the play, suede-like soft, leathery tuberose adds lively animalic accents. the ample amount of ambergris makes the whole composition very oceanic, salty, expansive.

after around 15 mins, woody, animalic accents become more distinctive and carry out the rest journey.

stupendous projection, resplendently refreshing oceanic vibe. wow wow.
it very much feels like conventional designer perfume rather than attar. but made with very high-quality materials.

Sultan Leather Attar, the OG.
OK, this is beautiful stuff. I am a fan of Ensar's take on musk in his perfumes, but this attar is perfect. Simple, yet so satisfying. I like how you can smell and identify the notes with ease when sniffed close on the skin, but in the air, it comes across as this beautiful leather-rose accord. Really love when perfumes do that.

My favorite of all times. #1 Attar for me.

I received Hindi Homme from JK as a sample in a recent purchase from a kind member on here.

It’s not really my style and I’m not sure if that’s because of JK’s perfumery style or if it’s the simplicity of materials to mimic an Indian Attar but with a western vibe. I think western styled perfumes/attars need to have a certain complexity to pull off this kind of scent. There’s a nice buttery Mysore in the base or at least something that smells like Mysore. There’s a woodiness that might be from Oud but I have no clue what materials were used in this one. It would’ve been nice to smell something that felt “Hindi” but overall it smells like an extremely simplified Lavender, Mysore and Castoreum blend.

EO Musk Yusuf got a decant of it. This is way to spicy been wearing it for the last week to see if changes for the better but nope. The quality is there but nope I threw the decant in the trash.
Haha seems EO doesn't work for you? I think some of his perfume creations smell all the same. Tigerlust smells like a mix of EO 1/2 with the typical juicy EO top notes been added. Iris Ghalia is the same as TL but with that metallic sharp iris note.

I found EO Musk Yusuf to be very pie/apricot like, bit spicy too.
Tibetan Musk mature and spicy.
Iris Ghaliya strong animalic. Like brown ambergris/Tibetian stink.
Borneo Zen(new if i recall it right could also be Zazen) - Floral - Jasime Centric
C&P - Tart and the least animalic and spicy fo these.

CP is easily wearable and for hot weather. All others are heavy, spicy and animalic, I probably would wear them in fall, winter.

I smelled all these from a friend and it was a great experience smelling them. All the perfumes are smooth, well rounded. None of them sharp.
