I got a chance to smell a little bit of the piñon pine oil distilled by @Goodness Nose - it's a very nice sweet pine oil that definitely showcases that peculiar piñon scent. I don't have any other piñon oils to compare this to so I'm not sure what more to say other than this oil in a diffuser might be quite nostalgic for anybody who has spend time in the southwestern US!

Prachin Oud oil, ruh gulab, raw civet paste.
It’s my the civet smells EXACTLY like a sheep resting place. If you want a literal barnyard smell then this is it. It has a little similarity to raw Mongolian musk but not the top notes. I can smell in it a little greeen basil-like note but it’s fleeing.
The gulab and Prachin Oud together are really really good, gives a nostalgic feel, the Gulab shears a little of the prachin’s harsh burnt notes and allows the smooth woody florals to come in, turning it a little gourmand.
The whole mixture smells pleasant, it might be the base for my next creation inshallah. The three together alone smell good.

Edit: the raw civet smelled from the bottle makes me believe what people say about it, it has a sweet floral scent to it that far in the back, but still present to my nose, so when diluted and aged a little it could come out to the front seat.

Took another whiff of the @Goodness Nose musk maceration as well. This is probably the most potent musk infusion I have gotten my hands on, there's enough musk in this for the musk top notes to cut through the suppressive effects of the sandalwood - a new experience for me.

Sounds great. The Prachin oils in my stash have a nice "incense note" - not sure how to describe exactly... quite rich in a certain unique way. Maybe that's what you refer to as the harsh or burnt notes?

Civet is interesting stuff - but I have only one single old resinoid absolute specimen from a french extractor that no longer exists, and that's it.

That might be what I’m smelling yes. There’s two types of notes in oud as for “burnt” : there’s the scent that comes from too high a temperature when distilling, this isn’t a favorable scent. And then there’s the incense note found a lot in Indonesian Ouds and some other regions rarely. The one I’m smelling in this prachin is like the second one. But it’s not the typical “Oud chip on coals” burnt scent, or firewood, more like a sharper, almost sour scent of burnt green sticks and even a little plasticy.
At the beginning it smells too sharp but just two minutes later it becomes better.
The Prachin Oud I’m smelling is a fairly newly distilled one, so this note might mellow out later.

I have smelled some notes that seem almost burnt and slightly plastic-like in some ouds - in balance with other notes it can be quite appealing I think.

For those of you who are experimenting with attars and macerations, it seems like gurjun balsam is a good alternative to sandalwood as a somewhat neutral carrier of scent. I just applied a swipe of a specimen and it's quite neutral and light in it's aroma, leaning towards a patchouli type fragrance. This might be a perfect carrier for anything along those lines. I have mentioned copaiba - that is more green and stemmy in its scent. Also amyris although that has a pretty obvious nerolidol and woody-leathery scent (still, it is a relatively mild wood).

Intriguing
I've made a couple of infusions but always with a relatively small percentage of musk like 10% or so - I think this is more like 33% or greater.

If you like well balanced oriental floral musky blends with an French vintage touch then you should definitely try it.
Why did I instantly fall in love with it? I don't know, I can't describe it. The only note I could pick out was rose for a few seconds in the beginning. But it makes me feel good.
I was suprised how close it comes to authentic deer musk notes together with fruity floral notes. In my opinion the best Musk Attar.
What can I add that you gentlemen haven't already mentioned, and beautifully so!

To add to Ouder's point, Dusk Musk brings me to the same emotional space that fragrances like Habit Rouge do. I remember smelling Habit Rouge at a Sears counter around 2017 and immediately envisioning a man an in tuxedo wearing it, yet at the same time, it reminded me of a very subcontinent style aroma, the scent of a nice Agarbatti. It was the merger of those two, very different profiles which made me fall in love with Habit Rouge, because here a very skilled perfumer was at work. Now that could have been the combination of the vanilla and sandalwood and the rose, but somehow these aren't unique notes, and often paired together, yet nothing makes me feel like Habit Rouge EDT in the Listerine bottle does.

It's that instant love I felt when I received Dusk Musk, and opening the bottle for the first time, what I envisioned the scent to be, was what I in fact was smelling, which matched the marketing material perfectly. The reason I perhaps love it, theaphilosophia, is that I feel like it's working at the precipice of overloading the deer musk, just a smidge more and you'd have something overly animalic and would take away from all the hardwork which has gone into it. What makes me appreciate Dusk Musk even more, is that fills the void that I had after I sniffed and wore AlD's Paradise Soil, which itself is a wonderful creation, but just not how I envisioned what it would be like. If deer musk is a wild stallion and @SULAYM the rider, then in Dusk Musk it has been bridled (which in itself is a deeper analogy for, perhaps the core struggle in life). So with this musk mastery, when I wear Dusk Musk I'm given strength, and there's a hidden dimension of concentration and reflection embedded in that. It almost immediately calms my mind, so much so that as I enjoy the scent bubble around me, I can almost almost imagine this being called the Winds of Paradise.

Couldn't agree more with you sevki_ak! When Sulaym set out to create a scent around musk they delivered! I recall Ahmed mentioning that many of their musk macerations wouldn't be close to what people would consider palatable, that got me more excited than anything else. I took a step back and just resniffed it, it's so powerful, from the cap alone it can be appreciated, and touching the top while closed is enough to leave the scent on one's fingers, and in every stage of development it remains breathtaking!

Really well said.

Something of note is it's been 16 hours since I put it on and I still smell a distinctive dark muskiness. And my wrist is still tinged a reddish color.

I received a sample set from Faizal Privee, which I sent on to another member here but unfortunately I can't remember which ones I wrote comments on and which ones I didn't. I was so busy with taking care of my father and trying to develop my own fragrances that I didn't really get a chance to form a relationship with the fragrances before sending them on, doing my best here to recall some details:

Kinam elixir is a cedar and cypress rich oud scent on one level but with lots of interesting accords on a deeper level.

There was a coffee based attar -mocha royale or similar name- beautiful complex heavy rich accords in this one. I didn't get a chance to wear this one on skin before passing it on unfortunately but it smelled like a real masterpiece, there was one accord in there which I wish I could reproduce in fact.

Niam santal is a musky ambrette seed rich nutty warm herbal cedary sandalwood - very natural and woody, musky dry down

The ghaliya has really nice multifaceted top notes and is pretty lively - not a super heavy base oriented blend so much. Nice balance, i feel like I smell cognac oil or something like it... musky heart and base. Floral and musky and spice (?) notes in balance.

Nice ouds too - a solid entry level lao, a hoi an that brings my favorite super hoi an to mind, malay kristal a pretty bright malay but still mature smelling, and the crazy Malay Ultima which I greatly resent having to send on to another ouddict 😂 because that would've been pretty much the pinnacle in my sample stash!

Just kidding of course - happy to send them on down the line

Beautiful review. Thank you. I also enjoy just smelling it from the lid the musk just takes over your olfactory system and it’s very pleasant experience every time.

I have some heavy musk macerations and this attar reminds me of that with its sharp musky notes. I was suprised how close it comes to authentic deer musk notes together with fruity floral notes. In my opinion the best Musk Attar.
Thank you @sevki_ak. It was some work blending the oud in with the florals. There is a really fine balance with musk that once you step over it changes the whole composition. And the result isn’t instant. You have to wait a few days to find out if the musk is too less, just right or too much.

ASO Yaqoot II. This is one of the best Musk Oud macerations I have smelled after SOROOR. I am totally captivated by the musk in it. I am a fan of heavy musk macerations. Last time I wore it to work and all day long I get wafts of amazing nutty green musk notes so enjoyable. I am looking to collect more such macerations and if you guys know of such please do let me know. Oud and Musk together.
I know two .. mesOUD SOROOR and ASO Yaqoot II. These are my top shelf. Any other please let me know.

Took another whiff of the @Goodness Nose musk maceration as well. This is probably the most potent musk infusion I have gotten my hands on, there's enough musk in this for the musk top notes to cut through the suppressive effects of the sandalwood - a new experience for me.
Oh. I’ve been lamenting that Mesoud no longer sells his musk maceration and it’s good to know someone might have one

Naseem by @mesOUD is the swipe du jour. First notes are medicinal and evergreen, phenolic and castoreum oriented and these notes take all your attention. Behind this is a chewy sweet floral/woody facet that gradually comes into focus and brings rose-oud accords to mind, and sweet resinous notes akin to benzoin peeking out as well. These subtle accords are quite beautiful and balanced, and make a nice contrast to the phenolic evergreen castoreum topnotes (which recede a bit but remain present throughout).

The fact that this is the product of a custom co-distillation makes it fascinating for me, as well as the fact that this is probably the only distilled castoreum I've ever smelled. This is one I will be revisiting regularly in the years to come.
