Hello @SophMarie !

I have not really engaged with any of the animal extracts beyond collecting specimens for reference / research and very basic layering experiments! fascinating materials of course...

Castoreum is neat stuff - very much reminds me of oud and I can smell the birch, willow and poplar that make up the diet of the beaver. It can have a kind of phenolic / medicinal note that is appealing. A recent sample that I got is kind of nauseating if it's too intense though… There's a body odor type aroma that sits beneath the phenolic notes that turns my stomach.

The civet i have is kind of "cheesy" - not appealing to me, but I understand that traces of it can exalt certain florals, and I have certainly noticed the influence of civet and artificial civet in perfumes and incense over the years.

I think the castoreum is worth getting at least to sample because it's so distinctive.
Dan at Apothecary's Garden works so quickly my sample has already shipped. Thanks for your thoughts 🙂

That's great - always nice when people respond quickly to orders.

Sokkat AtTeeb - التركيبة المغربية الملكية (The Royal Moroccan Recipe) - I've had a stange relationship with this blend. At face value it's a very simple blend, some oud and Moroccan rose, however whenever I smelled it from the applicator, I got that famous crushed bug or cat spit note, not sure which one Mr. P coined but I think one of them for sure. So smelling this from the applicator I've pushed this way back in my selection.

Whenever I've worn it though, it's been quite different, that off note is nearly indiscernible, and your left with a beautiful Thai crassna (the Trat Firewood oil is apparently used here) with a green pink rose🌹 there's also seems like there's a white musk here, enough to round out the composition. It's really quite nice, nothing over the top, which is my usual style, but with descent projection, a masculine oud rose that's not generic smelling. Even the prickly-ness of the rose is preserved, I have some of his Moroccan rose oil, but haven't tested it yet. It was supposed to be an ode to his trip to Morocco, and I think Abu 'Amr excelled in this creation. Not to mention at 162 SAR it's an outstanding pick if you're close enough to escape customs and shipping costs. Really that pink green rose note is what's so addictive here, I have blends I've made with Ta'ifi rose and Thai crassnas, and the pink intensity of the rose shows up and likewise with Isparta, the green notes.

Do they ship to the USA

Do they ship to the USA
They do Arabiad07 but it'll cost you about 200 SAR for shipping alone, and because they report the total cost of your package, get ready for a nasty customs payment that DHL will want you to fork up. Shipping's mostly been smooth with them but some collections, which are shipped from outside the Kingdom take quite long, but the majority you'll get in about 3 - 5 days.

However I would not recommend you get this blend, they have other offerings which are more unique, this blend for someone who's been in the Artisanal space for while, it wouldn't be remarkable, my review was mostly a sigh of relief that I'd be able to wear this more, after having pushed it to the back of the cupboard. If however you find yourself at their physical location, you could try it out.

I've been testing couple beautiful creations by brother @Faizal_p, and I've shared them with few friends and the feedback were all great!

- Imperial Ghaliya:
Beautiful Ghaliyah style perfume, opened with a manadrin like note and saffron with musk tone, rose in the center and the drydown is all about powerful Hindi oud. Very well done!

- Violet Animale:
Violet, civet and tea. Ambergris and oud are there to support the feminine leaning perfume. I got also honey like note in the drydown. For the lovers of civet and floral perfume, especially violet.

- Nilam Santal:
Smell Like Al Madinah Al Monowarah to me. Spicy sandalwood that is balanced perfectly, cacao is structured to be blended deep in the composition with excellent sweet tone from the vanilla. Another banger from FP.

- Oud Opulente:
This reminded me of French perfumery. Lavender and orris with spicy tone and sandalwood, rose and patchouli and an oud that is hidden.

I've tried hundreds of artisian natural perfumes, from very expensive to well priced ones, and I can say it with confidence, brother @Faizal_p is a professional perfumer that I will follow his work closely as I can see he will (in sha' Allah!) fill the gap between artisian perfumery (good natural materials) and skillful blending (classical trained french perfumers). This gap is what I'm interested to follow now and see how it is going to evolve over the upcoming years.

Can you possibly list which attars you’d recommend that are similar to traditional Ghaliyahs? Thank you

To day
Rising Phoenix crocodile 🐊
Kabir Attars Salhaludeen
Kabir Attars Vanilla Mongolian Rose Musk.
This mash up smells amazing you get this postage stamp glue smell from the crocodile 🐊 mixed with a sweet Musky deep Sandalwood from the Salhaludeen and then a bright vanilla fruity Rose hyped up by the Musk. But the best part is the dry down sorry but I can't describe this smell.

They have a collection titled مجموعة الغوالي (Ghaliyah Collection) out of which,
- غالية السعودية (Saudi Ghaliyah) is the only one which blew me away. Probably one of my favorite blends ever, sweet, true musk like musky and mentholic. Cools me down when I wear it, sometimes it's my bedtime scent, I adore it that much!
- غالية الدرعية (Daariyah Ghaliyah) and غالية الرياض (Riyadh Ghaliyah) are both sweet cardamom bombs, different but quite similar to eachother, I find Daariyah a bit more complex, but again you'll get a mentholic notes on a oud musk profile. Riyadh is supposed to have coffee notes, at least I think so but perhaps this is in the tradition of qahwah, overdosing the cardamom for the uninitiated.
- غالية دارين (Daarein Ghaliyah) is less cardamom-y than the previous two, but has similarities to Saudi Ghaliyah. Its supposed to be an oud and ambergris based attar, at times I've smelled a bit of ambergris like funk to it, on a crassna base. It's the least projecting of the collection.
- غالية الطائف (Taif Ghaliyah) is one I've worn the least, its supposed to have natural musk and ambergris but there's the addition of pomegranate which just doesn't vibe with me, and makes the whole thing smell synthetic. I'll check it out again of of these days.

Not in the collection is a new offering تركيبة ملام (Malaam Recipe) which is supposed to a cambodi oud with ambergris, a fairly pungent and bitter blend, I've enjoyed wearing it, but it's so strong two dots per wrist is usually enough for a wearing. For sure could use some sweetness. There's also their older offerings تركيبة مسك الغزال (Deer Musk Recipe) which I'm not the biggest fan of, it probably is authentic, but there are facets I can't digest here, again like Malaam this is bitter. تركيبة عنبر و مسك طبيعي (Ambergris and Pure Musk Recipe) out of the older offerings is my favorite, there's a bit more balance here, but again I'd place this lower than the Ghaliyah collection. They also sell pure ambergris on the site, but I've refrained to ordering that, not knowing what the customs might do with that!

ASO Al Bayt Al Ateeq II
Swiped it a fresh this morning. Last time I was just blown away by the smell itself that it was so sublime but this time, I wanted to pay more attention and I get a really amazing ethereal scent profile underneath that sweet sandal floral tones. I think there is a really high quality oud in this one because that ethereal full profile that fills my nostrils is coming from oud definitely. The layers can be distinguished if you smell it up close keenly but at the same time they come together as a captivating scent.

Highly potent stuff. Full strong profile of oud hitting up. Mind blowing attar.

Dusk Musk @SULAYM

Starts of fresh/sour with some sort of Orange Flower,Neroli, Peachy top and transitions into a beautiful bouquet of (slightly sweet) white flowers without smelling feminine or too floral. There is always this this kind of Irisy, powdery muskiness that accompanies you during the experience. I wouldn't be surprised if there's iris in it. You can hardly pick out any notes without a trained nose. I was very impressed in terms of blending skills. It's a really well balanced composition without any edges.

It connects old french vintage compositions from the past (Guerlain, Jean Patou) with oriental Oudy animalic facets. It really reminded me of L'Heure Bleue with an Oriental Oudy touch at least from the color Spectrum. It shares the same feeling. Dusk Musk diffuses its atmosphere at the very moment when the sun disappears beneath the horizon and the sky is painted with night’s velvet.

L'Heure Bleue "The sun has set, but night has not yet fallen. It’s the suspended hour… The hour when one finally finds oneself in renewed harmony with the world and the light. The night has not found its star yet". An anthem representing the softness of life and romantism. This is exactly how I would describe Dusk Musk from a poetical point of view.

If you like well balanced oriental floral musky blends with an French vintage touch then you should definitely try it.

Dusk Musk - Sulaym tonight after a long and frustrating day/night at work. This might be the new highlight of my night fragrance collection.

I'm tagging Ouder's review because I agree with everything they say wholeheartedly, but I would never be able to describe it so skillfully and eloquently. I especially agree with, "You can hardly pick out any notes without a trained nose." Because it's fragrances like this that really humble me to the fact that, despite putting my nose to dozens if not hundreds of fragrances, I'm still just a beginner.

Why did I instantly fall in love with it? I don't know, I can't describe it. The only note I could pick out was rose for a few seconds in the beginning. But it makes me feel good.

I have some heavy musk macerations and this attar reminds me of that with its sharp musky notes. I was suprised how close it comes to authentic deer musk notes together with fruity floral notes. In my opinion the best Musk Attar.
