Haven’t seen mandeel almandeel here in a long time unless I missed something. His posts were always interesting - the man truly loves his oud! Hope all is well with him.

What sickness did you have? Is it severe cough or breathing problem by the way? I stopped burning agarwood in charcoal after i discovered kynam heater and kynam so i am afraid too i will have breathing problem if i continue. Also, how long have you been burning agarwood before getting sick because of the smoke from it?
thats why i dont touch most agarwood because sellers will try and make it look resinous, oily heavy etc and toxic compounds on it. there do exist good sources and good woods with low budget and ouddict has many people selling them. i just do not heat a lot daily sometimes just weekly.

Hope so. Is there anyone here has problems because burning agarwood directly with charcoal or heating it indirectly with subitism/kynam heater?

Also how do you know if agarwood had been adultared @language scent ? I haven't developed sensitivity like you said in other post in Toxic/heavy metal possible trace in oil.

Yamadamatsu Manaka today. One of the highest grade Malay imo.

It will smell very acid at first and give horrible effects. Sometimes doesn’t smell bad and still mess you up because they didn’t put as much glue but I see this mostly in cheap woods. Kilogram batches. Not small batches of good wood being sold at cheap price. You can’t always know. Since I stopped smelling cheap woods I never get bad effects unless the expensive woods are also adulterated. Rare but sadly from china side it happens often.

“Spring wind” Kynam sample from @language scent. It was described by him as kynam of kynam, the best kynam that has ever known.

The name correlates with this piece. I imagine sitting down on a cliff sunrise with spring breeze hitting my face while enjoying green tea in a Ghibli movie world, Kiki Delivery Service. It is amazing such kynam can bring strong emotional response. It is the best kynam to enjoy by seashore.

The notes are really unique, it is like the combination of every kynam colors with sea salt and 'windy' vibe in it. The notes I smell here is strong white kynam, medium green kynam, little bit black and purple kynam, oceany, salty, silky, calming, and 'windy'. From all kynams i have right now, this is the most unique one. I would not call it the best or my favourite because smell is subjective and I need time and more kynam to determine.

i get a lot of sweetness also. also, i dont really like it on 60-100 which is strange, there i get a vintagy greenish kyara that is not very complex and also resembles a pursat. it is at 110-120 where it explodes with what seems to be a whole collection of kinams placed on a heater and they resonate between it all in such a beautiful way flashing colors and flowers and things.

I’ve been having no problems by gently heating agarwood, although I inspect every piece I heat under 8-10x magnification.

Also, if an agarwood just doesn’t smell right, avoid it, and if you don’t like how you feel after heating certain pieces, avoid those too.

Hojari and ck on the tea light burner. Pleasant but not really an improvement on either one on their own.

Sometimes blending seems like such hubris. Who am I to think that I could somehow improve on these natural wonders? Might as well try to improve the landscaping of the Grand Canyon.

Dark body round leaf from kangiiten on the tea light burner. It is lovely but not much to distinguish it from black, purple, green at least when burned this way (filling a space with scent at a little higher temp. as opposed to studying closely on the subitism).

One nice surprise about these woods for me is that gently heated they are very dignified, elegant, clean and pretty universally appealing, but when heated more they can also switch to a mode where they fill a space with something a little more heavy and primal. Nothing compared to the wildness in some of the other woods in my collection, but something I didn’t expect from the cultivated wood.

I actually have no idea which woods in my collection are cultivated and which aren’t. The CK is the only wood I have purchased where it was actually sold as cultivated wood
