Semi-fossilized green kyara sounds like a treat. Thanks for sharing these interesting posts… so many woods with interesting stories.
hmm funny the more i try to get information about kyara, or entire rikkokugomi wood it never end? there is lots of views on ther origins, kyara colors, formation in japan like some common and some only few know about it? the chinese separate the oil from formations, like Purple oil Honey knot, black oil Iron knot or green oil sugar knot.
in japan the Iron seem to be seen as black or purple, condensed green "there is another opinion that iron isn't black or purple and condensed is black or purple"
one of the views by chinese for formation knots
1. Parrot green, also known as green phoenix, is dark green when cut, like oriole feathers with shining green light, and is very fragrant.
2. Orchid Knot, also known as Purple Phyllanthus, has a fruity and sweet fragrance, which is more regular and conservative. The overall fragrance is slightly inferior to that of Yingge Green Phyllostachys.
3. Golden Knot, also known as Huang Qinan, refers to the green chess that is still young and not old enough. The oil cut surface is more yellow and less green. Although the fragrance is good, it is not long-lasting.
4. Sugar knots may be the less experienced purple chess. The fat cross section is yellowish brown and the aroma is mainly sweet with a cool taste.
5. Iron Knot, also known as black agarwood, has hard oil, mostly cool taste, and a short-lasting fragrance. It is the cheapest among all agarwoods and is often used in traditional Chinese medicine.

Honey Knot
the surface color of the honey knot is gold or brown , not the deep black oil color. Therefore, although the aroma is sweet and elegant, the light color is often mistaken for insufficient oil richness.
The honey knot is soft as a whole, greasy and waxy, and its oil is in the form of honey-like amber crystals. The taste is extremely fragrant, and the aroma can be seen within one meter. It has the aroma of honey or flowers, and the taste is sweet and clear. The aroma enters the throat and close to the nose. The aroma goes straight to the brain and enters the brain and heart.
The most typical representative of honey-knot agarwood is the high-quality agarwood produced in Nha Trang, Vietnam. It has a sweet and elegant fragrance, with a nectar-like aftertaste, making people feel light and happy when smelling it.
Honey knots are rare in number. Sugar knots are slightly more numerous than honey knots. They are also larger than honey knots. They have soft and hard shapes.
Sugar knots
Sugar knots are slightly more numerous than honey knots, and the individuals are larger than honey knots. There are two types of shapes: soft and hard. The so-called sugar knots are slightly harder than honey knots, and some of them have an outer hard shell. The hardness of the hard shell is The strength is not high, but it has a very strong feeling. It feels smooth to the touch. When drilling with a silver needle, you can see that the inside is creamy. The aroma also comes out through the pinhole tube, but the taste and aroma are worse than honey knot.
The quality of sugar-condensed agarwood is very high. The oil-condensed parts are sticky and silky, and the oil-condensed oil has high saturation and is similar to honey. It feels very soft and waxy, can be curled when cut, is a bit sticky, and smells very fragrant and refreshing.
iron knot
It can be used as the base fragrance and condensed substance of high-end perfumes. Iron knots are also hard to find . The Qinan we are talking about now mostly refers to iron knots. Honey knots and sugar knots are rare in the world.
Compared with the rarity of honey-knotted and sugar-knotted agarwood, iron-knotted agarwood can be seen from time to time.
The iron knot has a hard appearance and a dark color . The greasiness of the cream is visible on the outside. If you carefully observe the structure of the iron knot, you can see a grid-like structure. Through the structure, you can see that the cream secretes evenly and the whole body is oily.
It can be smelled spicy and pungent when smelled raw, and when smoked with heat, it will produce an incomparable aroma that cannot be compared with any artificial spices. Brown oil is obtained by distilling it with high-temperature water.
there is mature knots or ripe knots in chinese system i seen people talk about from time to time, need time to dig the sources myself.

oil and formations "hardness and softness" applied to kyara only "yamadamatsu book"
Green oil, Blue oil, Yellow oil, Red oil, Black oil
Gold oil, Amber oil, Brown oil, Purple oil, Iron oil
here no mention about the condensed/compressed oil one
from AK book.
Condensed oil Kyara. there is hard types of kyara It's called black oil or iron oil. , but the condensed oil has a firmness that sets it apart from them.
I will
write it down. It is "condensed oil".
This expression, ``shrinking,'' may seem extremely special and unusual, but it seems to be expressing the state of the
lump, rather
than the apparent atmosphere. (When a famous incense name says ``chimiji'', it literally means that the grain of the
fragrant tree is curled, which is completely different from ``Condensed oil.'') "here he is talking about certain piece of kyara from 120 kinds fragrance.
The biggest feature is that it is ``hard and heavy''.
The agarwood tree begins to turn into resin, and after a long period of time it has become extremely filled with fat
I have no idea how this hardness occurred.the problem is that we have no idea what kind of changes have occurred since then
I imagine that it was caused by a force similar to tectonic movement.
The mystery deepens as to how the mass was discovered. Cells are compressed
Not only that, but the resin inside also seems to be packed tightly.
I feel that the amount of fragrance released is higher than usual.
another view on Condensed and Iron
Condensed oil kyara
The green oil-based Kyara is buried in the soil, hardened, and fossilized, and the scent is clear and has a deep, lingering aftertaste.
In other words, it is a fossil of green oil cala that has turned into petrified wood.
Compared to soft wood, it gives the impression of being transparent without the turbidity characteristic of low-ripeness Kyara.
Iron oil
It is a product of the purple oil to black oil that has been aged and hardened, and is the most concentrated form of Kyara, and is not a fossil. Its appearance is unique, and when it is ground hard it turns into powder, but its scent is the most intense of all the fragrant woods, and can only be described as the strongest. It's so strong that it can't be compared to green oil Kyara or purple oil Kyara, and the aroma can only be described as a strong Kyara scent that creates an illusion of a pungent smell and the brain. It's difficult to describe it as top incense, but I personally like it. The most unforgettable scent.
Example of what i have of both
have other pieces which is bigger, maybe i'll do post them later =)
